Except for the crucifixion detail and the subsequent success of his disciples in spreading the Word, the whole tale is very much in line with other hero legends of the time. Many scholars believe the difference was in the doctrine that God loves all humans, even slaves and women. One must admit that those couple of chapters forming the "Sermon on the Mount" and some of Paul's letters have inspired billions over the centuries and had a huge influence on Western ethical beliefs.

I don't really buy a lot of it any more, but the vision that inspires selfless lives of service and profoundly changed some thoroughly dissolute human beings has my utmost respect. The countless childhood hours spent memorizing the Baltimore Catechism guarantees that my thoughts will be shaped until I breathe my last. There are many worse things one could teach a child.

He would most probably get more than 80%...

Mr. Poroschenko has certainly not achieved what he proclaimed to do when elected years back, and I must confess that I would have hoped for a better presidency than it apparently was.

However, the election of a political 'Nobody' is not what the Ukraine does need right now. Mr. Putin does certainly have plans on how to deal with the 'un-experienced'.

Let´s just hope that reason will prevent us from any new, dangerous conflicts...

It's not really 'selfless service' at all but transactional and based on pure self-interest. It's the same reason why Islam has been successful.
Basically 'Believe in me and you'll live forever in paradise' seems like a good deal if it was actually true.

People who do good things but not for any presumed or hoped for reward in this life or afterlife that's selflessness.
