There is "shit Donald Trump says" and then there is serious business. Unless he reverses course, the "eradicated" ISILs will still be in Syria after American forces leave. It's not Mr Trump's fault that American forces are there - that was the decision of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Mr Obama. Destabilising Syria was a wicked and malicious act - there's pretty much nobody in Syria who gained from Mr Obama's actions. But you make choices based on the present and Mr Trump is making wrong choices everywhere you look. The empirical evidence that he is Russia's bitch is getting stronger all the time.

And for those of you who may think that I am a supporter of the subject of this thread, you are sadly mistaken. Let's just say that I encountered him personally on a few occasions back in the day and if I wanted to I could make the opinions expressed in this thread look like child's play. However, I refuse to stoop to that level.

I have the same complaint that I had with President Obama--ISIS, misguided bunch of thugs that they are, grew from some very real grievances, and eradicating the symptom without eradicating the grievances simply leaves the field open for the next bunch of unemployed thugs.

Trump, however, has complicated the equation by precipitously undertaking to abandon the allies, primarily the Kurds, who joined in the enterprise.

Unrelated to that, there has been a semi-mystical tradition since the U.S. took up its current form of government in 1789 that the president "grows" into the office by reducing his partisan identity and becoming the "president of all the people". While the momentary holders of the office have been more or less successful in reaching that goal, all have more or less tried until the present example. Trump has made it clear that he has no intention of representing the interests of anyone outside his benighted group of enthusiastic supporters and, as he regularly demonstrates, he has no hesitation about throwing them under the bus when it serves his interests. That is why many Americans can say with justification that he is not our president.

If you betray your friends when they need you, you will find that in your hour of need you have no friends, because you have already betrayed them all. This is an extremely good example of Mr Trump serving the interests of Putin and Russia by weakening the USA for decades into the future.
