An American actress born as Marion Pepper in New York City in 1915 and died in 1969 from coronary thrombosis at the age of 54.
She changed her first name when landing in the Florenz Ziegfeld Jr follies, where she met and became dedicated friends with Lucille Ball.

Her 1946 divorce and the tragic motorcycle accident death of her husband shortly thereafter left her devastated. Her depression led her into alcohol and overeating and was responsible for enormous weight gain and basically became the dictating factors of her receiving only small bit parts in movies and TV.

Her good friend Lucille Ball would try to help out and so you would see Barbara pop up on a few I Love Lucy episodes from time to time. But Barbara is probably best known and will forever be remembered for her portrayal of Doris Ziffel in the TV comedy Green Acres (1965-1971). Her deteriorating health forced her to leave the show in 1968 and she died the following year.

Despite lacking nudity, she was quite a "looker" prior to 1949 and before becoming Doris Ziffel and Arnold the Pig's mother!
