Question Post Covid Lockdown Plans

Now that our illustrious Prime Minister has laid out the roadmap to ending the Covid lockdown, what are your plans to celebrate?

Me, I'm simple. Sunday lunch, in a good pub, with my adult children and some close friends. Bliss!

Well if the regional leaders of the UK get their act Together I might be able to finally see and hold my Grand nephew who is approaching his 1st birthday.

Sadly his great grandmother never got to hold him.

I originally intended to fly up to Edinburgh for the day last spring, but no chance of that now Cardiff airport is closed, zero flights most days. So I've got to drive from Wales, through England to Scotland. Why are we not Great Britain.

I plan to get ever more dispirited in a search for work in which:

70% of jobs advertised, are actually advertised on the same website by half a dozen different agencies and advertised by each of those agencies on all the other websites.

85% of all jobs are to be done on rotating shifts, and as I can only get the bus I can't apply for them, and even if I could get there, I'd probably get my days and times mixed up.

95% of the adverts stress "fast paced work", and as I've never been able to get fast paced quickly, and I know from experience that employers don't really allow time for someone to get good enough and quick enough (I did have a job for 3 1/2 hours once), I wonder if it would be wiser to not apply.

The jobs that I've kept have all been ones in which I've been shown what to do and then been left alone to get on with it and check stuff if I'm not sure, rather than the closer supervision that seems to be more the style these days.

70% of the jobs need experience levels that I haven't got.

*= all percentage figures are complete guesswork and could be rather inaccurate, but those are the numbers that seem not far from the mark to me.

At some point the staff at the jobcentre will think I'm not doing enough and not applying for enough jobs, even though I have in the past volunteered to go on a large number of "courses" of various types and I volunteer at a charity shop to keep up the basic work skills of working with other people and doing various tasks as needed, so at some point I will expect my money to be stopped.

After so long, I rather fear that as both individuals and a flock, we have changed.

It is arguable that this may be what a greater force sought - that there is a fear and distrust amongst us that wasn't there pre lockdowns.

I would like to think that pubs, clubs, and coffee houses, will be bustling hubs once more and that laughter will fill the air - but I fear that we have entered an age where laughing is frowned upon; how can you dare to laugh when so many have passed on or suffered?

One thing that has struck me over the past year is that increasingly we are individuals - workmates will sit on their breaks on phones using Social media to speak to others rather than colleagues - families are doing different things in different rooms rather than being the family unit.

I fear we are "returning" to a very different world.
