Judge Dredd should ALWAYS keep his helmet on ! Armand Assante and Max von Sydow completely out acted Stallone in that film version :-

The Exterminating Angel (1962)
Trailer After an evening at the opera, Señor Edmundo Nóbile (Enrique Rambal) and his wife Lucia (Lucy Gallardo) invite their upper-class friends to dinner at their fancy mansion. After dinner the guests adjourn to the music room, where one of the guests, Blanca (Patricia de Morelos), plays a piano sonata. Not long after that, the guests begin to remove their jackets and make themselves at home as if they intend to stay for the night. The hosts, Edmundo and Lucia, are surprised at their guests' behavior but retain their hospitality. It soon becomes obvious that all of them are unable to leave the room and nobody knows why. They are "trapped" for days during which their upper-class virtues and manners are revealed as a mere facade. The Exterminating Angel is one of Buñuel's last Mexican films. It's a surrealist film full of allegories and highly critical of bourgeois society, a topic typical for many of his films. Highly recommended. |

In the small town of Derry during the summer of 1989, a group of bullied kids band together when a monster, taking the appearance of a clown, begins hunting children. AWESOME! An outstanding horror film which contains some very disturbing and scary moments. All the young actors are absolutely stunning and the movie never slows down. One the best movie made about a Stephen King novel and probably one of the best films I'll see this year. IT was incredible.

Once Upon A Time In America. I've never seen the full 229 minutes version before and now I realise how they ruined it when it was shown in the cinema. It's a screenplay worthy of Shakespeare.

Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. (1990)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117609/ Classic Troma movie as NY cop Harry Griswold who is possessed by an ancient Kabuki spirit and uses his powers to fight crime and corporate greed, absolutely fantastic, brilliant fun with a great theme tune https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVFtfaX1OhQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gkhtYE7ijU "At the end of Mercury's next journey, the Dragon shall dance through the hoop of Jupiter. If at that moment the Monkey will ride the Jaguar and the Tiger will feast on the Nubile, the order of the Universe will be such that the Evil One will reign supreme for Eternity! "

Johnny Handsome (1989)
Trailer John Sedley (Mickey Rourke) was born with a disfigured face and spent most of his life as an outcast and a criminal. After a heist goes wrong, with his best friend Mikey Chalmette (Scott Wilson) ending up killed by the treacherous couple Sunny Boyd (Ellen Barkin) and Rafe Garrett (Lance Henriksen), John is arrested and sent to the Angola prison in Louisiana. Even though he refuses to cooperate with Lt. A.Z. Drones (Morgan Freeman) who offers mitigation should John name his accomplices in the heist, an attempt on his life is made by two men who were hired by Rafe Garrett. Sedley is transferred to a hospital under the care of Dr. Steven Fisher (Forest Whitaker), a specialist in reconstructive surgery, who gives Sedley a chance to start a new life. Johnny Handsome is a well-directed and well-performed, bluesy crime thriller, shot on great locations and accompanied by a beautiful soundtrack, but suffers from a predictable plot and one-dimensional characters. |

Just done my shopping trip to Asda and scooped up a few more dodgy DVD's
Moving on from Sgt Kabukiman but still with a Japanese theme Temple (2017) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4898730/ It opens with Japanese Police searching a forest at night, they find an abandoned video camera then a temple the inside of which is ... let's say strange. Cue opening credits and articles telling of children that have gone missing over the years, then we see preparations to interview what I assume is a survivor from whatever happened.... cut to the film from the abandoned camera then the main story Three American tourists, 2 male 1 female find an old book in an antique store with about a temple and are puzzled when they are told it is not for sale. Oddly one of the group finds the store open at night and manages to buy the book from a child in the store. Despite lots of warnings from various strangers they head into into the forest lead by the strange young boy who sold them the book looking the temple, you just know something mega spooky is going but you have to wait till near the end before it belatedly kicks into life https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cEX8r0es7Q

I'm not really into horror so I was going to bypass this movie but I got a free pass and time to kill so I gave it a look and I'm glad I did. The cast did a wonderful job especially the child actors: Jaeden Lieberher,Jeremy Ray Taylor,Sophia Lillis ,Finn Wolfhard,Wyatt Oleff,Chosen Jacobs and Jack Dylan Grazer It was extremely scary at times coupled with some great SFX work Bill Skarsgård as It / Pennywise was brilliant as the evil clown entity Everything blended well the humor, horror and dramatic moments They captured a lot of Stephen Kings touches. My only problem was that the climax felt a little drawn out IT is doing very well at the box office and deserves it Scale of 1-10 an 8½ TRUE TO THE GAME I had no idea this movie was coming out until I scanned what was new in theatres this weekend I'm glad I bought a ticket and gave it a chance Some of the themes were been there done that but I was entertained High praise to cinematographer I think the cast did a fine job,i enjoyed Nia Hill's salty screenplay It was clichéd here and there sprinkled with some predictable results But I enjoyed it for what it was Scale of 1-10 a 7½ RIP Nelsan Ellis UNLOCKED This film felt like 4 slightly watered down episodes of Homeland The cast gives it their all despite weak moments in the script Especially Noomi Rapace, and John Malkovich who was very amusing Toni Collette was really a bad ass in one scene and I said to myself someone should cast her in more action flicks The first 40 minutes were really on point and suspenseful But it falls in to some very predictable holes Good for a slow Saturday night rental Scale of 1-10 a 6½ |
