Default Virus?

When looking at specific pictures on the suze.net page, it goes into...or has gone into, a page that locks up & threatens us with legal action & unless I cough up £100, the page stays locked.

The only way out of this is to do a forced shutdown of my PC, which does not do the hard drive any good.

Sort of spoils the viewing whenever that method of storing pictures has been used by the downloader.

Regards

It's called ransomware. It's nasty malware. First time I got it scared the crap out of me!

Try using something like MALWAREBYTES antimalware to sort it out......

NoScript is a good idea to have as well. Both Jenny and buttsie recommended it to me, and I have, thankfully, had no problems.

There's a whole thread about this problem here:

Sounds like the identical thing thats been doing the rounds via Ads

latest ransomware Cryptowall virus via malvertising

Link at the bottom leads to a page where your shown what add-ons to use
to set-up your browser securely...

http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/sho...79&postcount=4

If you go down the no script path theres a small guide here
Most sites will work OK with little more than the website name allowed
- right click screen - look towards the top of the list
Its when things like streaming video, filehost captchas or very large sites with a lot of scripts are involved it can get tricky.

Using ad-block plus and ad-block plus pop-up can be very effective
in killing this type of ransomware before it even appears

What they dont mention in the best browser link is Jre (java runtime enviroment) - all versions
should really be removed for the danger they pose - especially on XP
- i've had one site not work since removing them - no great loss

http://java.com/en/download/faq/remo...erversions.xml

70% of all attacks come via this one program - so I've read - staggering but given the creator Oracle now say even before you download this program its vulnerable
its like holding a ticking time bomb

Adobes flash plugin disabled if your just looking at pics
I've had this plugin hijacked a handful of times recently
where they simply stopped it from updating...very subtle

Only because i use software checkers PSI (easy) & SUMO (intermediate)
everyday I picked it up before it could do any damage

It appears to be only on pimpandhost scanned pictures & as soon as I see that format I exit the page quickly before it has a chance to fully download.

Thanks for the feedback all. I'll have a good read through it all & act accordingly

Actually, you don't need to do that. If you let your mouse pointer hover over any photo or link then look down at the bottom left corner of your browser, it should tell you where the link or picture is going to take you. Hope that makes sense. Once you remember that you'll never have to click on something, realize where its taking you, and then quickly shut down that page or tab.

Pimpandhost has been very slow since a week or so. Wonder if this is connected with the ransomware attacs?
