Carry on up the Kybher, my Dad took me to see it just me and him without my mother or brother and it kind of became our film. Right up until he died if it was on TV one or the other of us would ring each other up and let each other know. I watched it recently and I felt so empty that my Dad wasnt watching it at the same time.
As for a song I have put this on another similar thread a while ago, Nothing Compares to You by Sinead O'Conner this song takes me to a very dark place that I do not like to be. On a happier note the Back to the Future films make me think of my kids growing up, we used to watch them together, the second one was on today and my Son rang me to let me know so it was just like me and my Dad.

The film "Young Frankenstein" holds a special place in my heart. There's a scene involving the song "Chatanooga Choo-Choo" that never fails to make me smile. It reminds me of my Mom. I also have a fond memory involving "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang". I begged my folks for weeks to take me to see it. They finally did, at a drive-in. Five minutes in I fell asleep. For years afterward my Dad would tell the story about how he had to sit through the longest, most boring movie ever made because I wanted to see it, and I fell asleep. That story always made me laugh.

Re Chitty Chitty Bang Bang-some cracking songs in that-my favourite was "Roses of Success" and somewhere in this attic there is an old album soundtrack of that film. I also own a battered CORGI toy of CCBB or GEN1 as it was christened but all the toy characters are long gone and the front bit has disappeared but the wings still unfold when you move the gearstick.

Moon River
"Breakfast at Tiffany's", may have been a great film, I'm not sure.
I was under ten when I watched it with my mother, but I do distinctly remember her remarking on "Moon River", the song from that film. Which was kind of unusual, as I'm only aware of 1/2 dozen songs that she liked. I made the decision to have it played at her funeral, and believe it will always forever more be a sad tune in my life. By the way Greenman I remember those toy "Chitty Chitty' cars. Think I may have had one as a kid? Thanks for the memory and at the same time the uncertainty also. |

Nothing Compares To You
Quote:
It just relates to my own experience of this particular song, and who doesn't have one? - It isn't among my collection either.. I remember when it was released and featured in heavy rotation on t.v and radio, around 1991? I'd just started seeing a girl who I swear had eyes not unlike a young Nina Hartley and a similar shaped face. Unfortunately she had only recently lost her husband in an automobile accident. I also noticed that a photo of him showed that he resembled me. I don't think that anything was ever said, however you just knew what was going through her mind, and try as I might I couldn't really divert her attention, when this particular song played. Turned out she was uncontrollably wild at (and to) this stage in her life. Think I will always see her face when I hear this song, even though I have moved on. |

Strange Glue by Catatonia seemed to sum up my life 10 years ago. Some bad stuff happened to me and it still brings it all back.

Does someone remember that Star Trek - The Next Generation - episode in which Capt Piccard gets caugh by an alien probe which obligues him to live an entire virtual life in just a few real minutes?
After his "death" he returns to his normal life, but forever missing his virtual family. I really cried with that episode. |

When Will You Make My Telephone Ring - Deacon Blue
The song 'When Will You Make My Telephone Ring' by Deacon Blue holds a special, albeit painful, memory for me.
I heard the song for the first time round about the time I got very silly about someone who wasn't interested. I had never, and still never have, heard a song where every single word resonates so deeply. I would recommend to anyone who hasn't heard the song do so..

Combining a film & soundtrack I cannot watch Going My Way with Bing Crosby now because I always cry at the end when the priest's(Barry Fitzgerald) mother is brought in but its a good film. The most poignant which also upsets me is Schindler's List(because I am Jewish) not only the film but the music-that violin solo cuts me in half every time I hear it.
