I remember Wogan doing a commentary on Eurovision many moons ago. A Turkish (I think) woman went full Whitney warble for a screeching end note. During possibly the highest point of this woman's career, Wogan cut in with "Control yourself, woman!". Maybe you had to be there. I still chuckle when I think of it.

Didn't like him much at all when he burst on the music scene, thought he looked like and still does try to look cool wannabe

My Gf way back then who I started to dislike loved him and played his crap over and over sent me over the top with his pretend coolness .... Back to blocking him out of memory now

I largely agree with you except in one respect - he did have a purple patch of writing some pretty good songs - some with Pete Briquette and Johnny Fingers, but several solo efforts too. A Tonic for the Troops was a good album.

But that was it - and how he managed to maintain his profile for so long after that one effort is a mystery to me.

Actually, that's how I see Dylan. Good writer - but songs almost always better sung by someone else.
