Don't forget though that businesses are needed to keep people employed; earn a crust and all that. I could go on about zero hour contracts, businesses not paying thier taxes, the living wage, capitalism, inequality, wealth distribution blah, blah, blah but the fact of the matter is businesses employ and pay people, and money makes the world go round!

What's annoying me most today...? F***ing Google!
Briefly... I have Samsung tablet computer that I usually only use for two things. One, it is handy to shift photos about when I want to show to friends etc., and two, I use it to log on to and control my NAS music server attached to my Hi-Fi system. I "rooted" this tablet some time ago in order to get rid of a lot of "bloatware" and google shite that comes with the Android OS. Yesterday, very unusually, I use the tablet to log in to one of my spam-trapping gmail accounts. I have number of these set up to collect all the junk mail that you get sent from various companies etc.. I just log in every few months, delete everything and then let the mailbox fill up again. Works well and keeps tons of crap off my domain accounts. I logged into the same gmail account today - from a different computer - to find an email from google telling me that I have several items of software missing from my Galaxy tablet...! OK - I know that the gmail system is free and I also know that google developed and operate the Android software suite. I hate f***ing google and I avoid them like the plague but they are all pervasive and I cannot get way from using them or their products occasionally. Trust me, I would if I could... It seems that whilst logged into my gmail, google took it upon themselves to have poke around my computer and see what was - or wasn't there... What troubles me is if they are doing that, what else are they looking at? No doubt, somewhere in the very small print there will be a clause allowing this so I probably only have myself to blame here but I'm still bloody angry with google. Bastards! In the meantime, anyone recommend a decent free webmail service I can use just for spam-trapping and get way from google altogether? |

For you dog owners......
Retractable leashes used by owners who say " my dog is harmless " as it runs 12 feet away at my dog from it's owner by a wire like string cord they can not control. I do not like mans best friend harnessed so much and restricted on a walk it is not fun, just get a good leash not long and get involved with your dog, run with him/her.

But Facebook, Yahoo, and most especially, Microsoft and Apple are all collecting data on you and have been for years. Throw in your bank, phone provider, ISP, and anybody you shop online with. Plus, all the bad guys who have hacked the above and everybody they've sold your data to, and God knows how many government agencies. Our lone protection is the sheer mass of data they've all got makes extracting and anything and using it problematic. Our other protection is that most of us are in such a precarious financial state that our info isn't worth having. |

It's interesting people are buying devices like Google Home, etc knowing that if they have location services activated on their phone then Google already knows where they work, where they shop, where they dine out, where they get their morning coffee, which way they get to work if catching transport, etc
What's even more interesting for me (as mentioned in the If You Lived In Australia thread on this site) is that the Aus Goverment now wants to heavily fine or jail people who refuse to give phone or computer passwords when requested (even without proof of an offence) and yet companies like Apple or Google probably know more about people than their goverment agencies do |

Yeah.. I know. I avoid google as much as I can. My tablet is set not to "phone home" for regular updates etc., but it is impossible not to have contact with the company completely. Even unrelated company websites are using googles search technology integrated into their site. As I said, usually the tablet is used for access to my NAS server and doesn't connect to the net at all. I don't use facebook, twitter, instagram or any (anti) social media at all, I don't use any microshaft products (I'm on Linux) and I own no apple devices. I also take reasonable steps to restrict access to my identity factors by using a decent VPN and throw-away email addresses but no doubt masses of data about me is being collected somewhere. I know it is impossible to be anonymous on the 'net - I've been on it too long to think differently - but I do take some steps to try to preserve my data. I'm still pissed off at google though! |
