After Argentina's woeful display yesterday, and assuming Iceland beat what seems to be a very poor Nigerian team this afternoon, we'll get the odd situation next Tuesday where both Croatia and Iceland will be perfectly happy for the starting score to remain intact until the final whistle.

I hope you're not a betting man? Nigeria cruised past a misfiring Iceland and their final match against 'The Duke of Argentine' pub XI should make fascinating viewing, even if only to see if Argentina can implode to an even more dramatic extent.

Musa and the Chelsea centre back had very respectable games for Nigeria.

Chief gripe of this WC: not the one-eyed refereeing, VAR or the rolling around...but kits.
Australia (yellow/green) play Denmark (red/white). BOTH teams play in their 'change' kit despite their being no colour clash. Croatia opt to play in a navy kit which sees Argentina change into white shorts whereas yet again, both could have played in their first colours.
Rampant commercialism has now slipped seamlessly into cynical marketing with a complicit FIFA. Well done everyone for showing such respect for tradition and the poor supporters. Any excuse to squeeze another £/$ etc...

I think we can assume no one is getting a penalty for being pulled over in the box after tonights tag team incident or at least not until faced with the prospect of brazil, argentina and germany going out in the group stage and some very irate sponsors FIFA suddenly launch a clampdown.

Fifa want the games for their TV bosses to be a contest so they dont want red carded players is my guess

Seems simple for mine - only use red cards for the most violent fouls
The blatant wrestling fouls in the box - just give a penalty - but with no sending off

It would be like rugbys penalty try

Football has the same issue cricket does with DRS
- it doesnt want to undermine the three blind mice

Alternatively saying your going to review every match and hand out
retrospective cards / bans would make all think twice before engaging in cheating.

For mine VAR needed to be trialled in Internationals & leagues for a decent amount of time
before being used at a showcase event like the WC

My partner and her friends decided to have a 'deckchair-afternoon'
~ I was allowed an absence "to watch his football"... fine.

The witches were still here, hysterical when Germany/Sweden started...they'd been here sober since about 2 or 3 pm

Now, it was about 7:30 pm and my partner decided to have regular conversations with me, and then going back to top-up the withches downstairs. I think I've listened to her for the longest time in my life, and I can't remember now, what on earth we spoke about
I mean I multi-task... was watching me laptop and AP txt... and probably not listening really. One can only do so much

What I did register was that we are all going for a 'Pub Meal' 2Mo.

Bout the same time England play.... And it is a decent North Wales pub/restuarant, and has a 'stand-up' area with Sport Screens, about half a mile away

My partner was not concerned with footie, once upon a time... but she bought the Blues' triniton shirt herself, cos it matched our shower-curtains obviously

They invented cr@p.

She did buy herself the Blues/German shirt that we used as an Away yonks ago, and now is Classic. She's seen as many...or possibly one more Blues' match than me... and she let's her women friends DENY me seeing England.

This is Witches !

I could refuse to go, but that creates hurt.
