Yes that calf ending up on someone's plate as a veal cutlet may seem a bit cruel, but there are many which do grow to maturity just to end up being a T-Bone steak on someone's plate.

If we all thought in terms of killing animals for food as being cruel then there would be a lot of hungry mouths and empty stomachs on this planet, unless we became a planet of vegetarians living solely on fruits and veggies. Boring!
No doubt some people would also find something to complain about with them as well.

It's ok to eat the adult cows. At least they had a few years to live and maybe were able to mate with a female. I just object to eating babies that are not even given a chance to live.

Veal can be produced from a calf of either sex and any breed; however, most veal comes from young males of dairy breeds who are not used for breeding.

Plus, haven't you heard, the majority of cattle/bovines these days are now artificially inseminated, so the poor bull/male does not even get to perform the deed himself firsthand.

I'm with you TM. I don't eat veal - but that has a lot to do with the way the animals are treated. I don't know if it's changed, but the veal calves used to incarcerated in crates so they could not move and get hardened muscles. Also kept out of the sun to keep the meat pale.

I'm not against eating meat as long as it is ethically farmed and the animals humanely treated and killed.
