The wannabe dictator in chief was trying to get support for an invasion of Venezuela. Amazing they kept it quiet until now. https://www.yahoo.com/news/us-offici...044213413.html

Daily Beast is simply reporting on an Associated Press story.

https://www.apnews.com/a3309c4990ac4...-official-says

Given the insane things that Trump says on his own Twitter feed, I'm not sure why you'd doubt this.

Trump routinely advertises his contempt for Latin Americans, international law . . . pretty much anything other than "might makes right", nothing "fake news" about that.

Speaking of people who get their news from unreliable sources, Trump seems to have taken a Fox News story whose only source was an Iranian cleric at face value, without bothering to ask anyone in the US government whether it was true.

Quote:

President cites no evidence for allegation, first made by hardline cleric and circulated by agency linked to Revolutionary Guard

Donald Trump has tweeted an unsubstantiated claim from an hardline Iranian cleric and circulated by a news agency linked to the country’s Revolutionary Guard, that thousands of Iranians were granted US citizenship as part of the 2015 nuclear deal.

In his 8am tweet, the US president said: “Just out that the Obama administration granted citizenship, during the terrible Iran Deal negotiation, to 2,500 Iranians, including to [sic] government officials. How big (and bad) is that?”

He cited no evidence for the allegation.

{snip}

The semi-official Fars news agency, which is allied to hardline Rouhani opponents and the elite Revolutionary Guards, published a news story focusing on Zonnour’s claim about a citizenship deal. Fars frequently breaks important news due to its access to the intelligence apparatus and military officials.

Fox News picked up the Fars news story on Monday, and Sean Hannity, a fervent Trump supporter and confidante, as well as a Fox new host, tweeted the story as “developing” soon after 1pm the same day.

Trita Parsi, the head of the National Iranian American Council, said:“That a cleric in Iran is throwing out complete conspiracy theories is sadly normal. Right now there is a strong push from hardliners to get Rouhani to resign and accusations of this kind are probably calculated to exploit economic frustration among Iranians.

“What is different now is there is a US president who is repeating these wild accusations.”

That is the definition of Dictator.
Well, let me say up front that I doubted from the beginning that the Affordable Care Act was constitutional. Our common sense understanding of American law would be that people cannot be compelled to buy health insurance. The congress of the United States passed the law. Chief Justice John Roberts and four other justices found the law to be constitutional. So, i guess I was wrong.

From the Merriam-Webster dictionary - dictator. noun. : a person who rules a country with total authority and often in a cruel or brutal way.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dictator

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dictator

I would urge you to get some instruction in civics, because your post contains several misunderstandings about how the Constitution allocates power among the branches and how the ACA worked.

One point is that Mr. Obama was no more a dictator than Mr. Trump is now. A second is that the taxpayers wound up providing healthcare to those who could not afford it, the same as they did before and do now. All that is changed is that now less healthcare will be provided to sick people who can't pay for it. I would suggest that you stay healthy.

By the way, I regard a society that does not care for sick and injured people despite having abundant resources as grossly immoral. Please note that the United States has 40% of the world's wealth and 5% of the population. Somehow, many much poorer countries manage to provide better medical care to their people than we do ours.

This is why I am so focused on the SCOTUS and why it can often be (as it was in the 2016 election) a singular litmus test for me. The Constitution is merely a piece of paper with some ink scribbles on it. The nine sitting justices decide what it really says and there is no appeal unless a different suit meanders its way through the courts to the SCOTUS docket at some later date. First amendment, second amendment, fourteenth amendment... they only mean what the court says they mean. If you get a liberal majority on the court and they say that "shall not be infringed" means "hand over your guns" then that is that. With this next nomination Trump can solidify the foundation of the court for the rest of my natural life. If Justice Ginsberg checks out sooner than later it's game over for a long time.

Default Scott Pruitt quits as head of US environment agency

Scandal-hit Scott Pruitt has resigned as head of the US Environmental Protection Agency.

In a letter to President Donald Trump, he blamed "unrelenting attacks" on himself and his family.

Mr Trump tweeted that Mr Pruitt had done "an outstanding job, and I will always be thankful to him".

But since taking office Mr Pruitt has been mired in series of scandals concerning his spending habits and alleged misuse of office.

His deputy Andrew Wheeler will take over as acting head of the agency, Mr Trump said.

Mr Pruitt is the subject of at least a dozen investigations into his conduct.

He has been under scrutiny for renting an apartment with ties to a fossil fuels lobbyist.

He is also accused of bypassing the White House to secure big pay rises for two long-time staff members.

I do hope you understand that I simply want top notch judges on the court. A radical left activist is just as bad as a corporate lackey or reactionary ideologue. Clarence Thomas has gone on record in his dissents advocating gutting the 14th and other amendments altogether. I urge you to read them.

For most of its history, the SCOTUS was dominated by reactionaries fully on board with ignoring the written words of the Constitution and its amendments to deny freedoms and fairness under the law. This changed in the mid-twentieth century. Needless to say, a few folks didn't like it. Most of us were far better off because of the changes.

I don't believe that most of those cheering on the court packing are old enough or familiar enough with our nation's history to understand what's happening. If Kochs get their way, your civil rights go up in smoke and you can expect a return to having riots that will make the current alt-right vs anti-fa clashes look like child's play.
