Premium only links not allowed by rules on many forums (on cash forums too)...
Exception - personal cash sites.

Aside from general arguments against it, that could be bad for VEF users, because then that file host couldn't be used here. (A VEF rule says that all content must be downloadable by anyone at no cost.) Not that I'm opposed to banning Filechoker; I wish that all uploaders who use it would switch to something else. But beggars (who refuse to pay for a premium account) can't be choosers.

And one reason I refuse to pay for a premium account at Filechoker specifically is that the proprietors appear to be dickweasels who want to make things difficult for those downloaders who are either cheapskates or else poor and unable to afford a premium account (when other things have higher priority, like rent and food).

According to what I've read here and elsewhere, sometimes that's unintentional and is caused by bugs in the captcha code and/or faulty interactions between a particular browser and the web server. I don't know of any easy way to figure out when it's intentional (I mean aside from some tedious tcpdump experimentation, which I have no interest in).

I agree that the captchas are being abused by the file-hosting services, with the collusion of the captcha providers/programmers. The stated purpose is to filter out bots, but we've got to the point where that's obviously b.s. and the real purpose is to annoy the user and waste his time as punishment for not paying.

Ahh, ok. I just did not think about it from this perspective.

Also, what I meant by "transparent" is that I'm totally OK with slow speed and waiting time as a consequence of free download. I'm even OK with very low speed like 10 kbps. Yes, it will take a day to get a movie, but at least I'll save some nerves without "road signs", and I will consider getting premium if there are other downloads I'm interested in.

But I guess they think differently. They probably think that downloading at 10 kbps is not annoying enough to push free members into premium accounts. Let's give them some road signs to help with decision making

And not just road signs, but slow fades in and out, and unnecessarily repeated captchas, and countdowns, and malfunctions that may or may not be deliberate ... all in addition to the throttled download speed, which would seem to be sufficient in itself.

What gets me about those file-locker services that abuse the captchas just to be a big PITA to the non-paying downloaders is how their management seems to figure that those downloaders who have had to put up with that stupid crap will magically turn around and say "Oh, OK, that's just fine, and you're forgiven, and you have persuaded me, so here's a chunk of my money for you. Have a nice day!" Holy arrogant greedhead dickweasels, Batman! From me, they get nothing but a heartfelt "FOAD."

over the last week or so I'd say that captcha's on all sites that use them have gone out of control. I abandoned one this morning at the 16th variation.

Same here, except that I haven't had the patience to go through 16. The other day, one of them via Filechoker appeared to grant me access after about the fifth iteration, but it turned out to be fake: that was before Filechoker had done its stupid 120-second countdown, and at the end of the countdown it reported "Wrong captcha", so I said to hell with it.

Being denied access to free pr0n is no big deal, and I for one can easily shrug it off, but the worst thing about the captcha crap is that it's also called by a lot of idiots who develop and maintain some web sites that matter quite a bit more. I have encountered it on the site of a local (municipal) government agency when registering for something serious, not pr0n. (What's more serious than pr0n?) That's very bad. Just by a fluke, I was able to get through after iteration number eight or nine (I lost count).

Very slow fades of traffic lights, fire hydrants, buses ... what fun! Not. This is how random jerks fsck with us remotely, just for the sake of being obnoxious fscktards. You see what I meant in my earlier post. IMAO, they should all be taken out back and shot. There's not much to choose between them and spammers.

Little more about countdown - 120 seconds only for free, but registerd users. For free but not registered - 180 seconds. And DL speed 50 kb/s...

As i write here earlier - perfect host for cash whores, who made free DL's very hard and if you want a file you need buy premium access and feed these greedy ones.

I have posted before about FJ. It really is so bad that I no longer even attempt to download members' files from this host. So if no alternate link is provided I would rather go without that file. IMHO VEF should ban the use of it.
