Continuing the next day I came across this ultralight(?) while driving along I-10.
I kept going south but I made a mistake when planning my route. I should have gone south on AZ-90 and AZ-92 and entered the Memorial from the east, where there's a paved road. Instead I went down AZ-83, which for a good chunk of its length only barely qualifies as "paved". Along the way I spotted this. Big Border is watching. Shortly after I turned to enter the Memorial from the west along a road that definitely is not paved. Since my car is not an off-road vehicle I ended up spending a couple hours crawling-bouncing along at 5 mph before reaching Montezuma Pass. (Trust me, the road is no where near as smooth as it looks in the photos.) Big Border is still watching. Not exactly a lot of places to hide here, so they must have gotten a good laugh watching me bouncing along.

Finally I reached Montezuma Pass.
My tax dollars at work. A hundred yards away from a US Border Patrol observation team. ""Coronado National Memorial, set aside to commemorate this historic march, symbolizes both the importance of the Hispanic-Mexican background in southwestern history and culture, and the close relationship existing between the Republic of Mexico and the United States." (Start another thread for the political argument over immigration policy.) A hike up the Coronado Peak Trail to the peak for a look around. A brush fire just over the border in Mexico. Reached the peak. Then down to the Visitor's Center. They have some comfortable chairs for watching a small pool behind the Center. I watched the birds feed for a little while. Then I took a walk around outside. And left. (The Memorial isn't very big.) Code:

I've nearly gone blind looking at your photos and for the life of me can't see the naked ladies. Seriously, though thanks for posting. Zion has some great scenery but if you haven't already been to Bryce Canyon you really must see it if you're going to Utah.

Bryce Canyon is on the list for future road trips. Along with every other National Park/Monument/whatever else catches my eye on the map.
