Obviousley, Penthouse today is no where near the magazine it was when Guccione owned and ran it. I think Penthouse's peak was the late-1980's when the articles were good and the women spectacular. You had 3 consecutive Texan-born blondes win as POTY from 1989 on: Ginger Miller, Stephanie Page, Simone Bridgette. The next few years you had Brandy Ledford and Julie Strain, still very beautiful women.

When Kathy Keeton died in 1997, the magazine really went downhill. I'm sure that Guccione didn't care about the mag as much after he lost his wife and biz partner. The pictorials became 'harder' and edgier, the great photography seemed to disappear, the women were no longer classy and beautiful, IMO. It was almost an upscale-Hustler.

I could be biased because I met alot of the girls from Penthouse and none from Playboy, but to me, the girls from Penthouse were beautiful, smart, and outrageousley sexy.

Nothing to be envious about and I don't have anything wild to say but here's a few I remember.

(1) Kimberly Taylor (Dec. 1988): Gave her a ride to a friend's house after she did a bachelor's party sometime in the early-1990's. She used to do Howard Stern alot and worked for one of those stripper-bachelor party clubs in the New York area. She was kinda wild at the party, very extroverted. Talking to her in the car, alot more subdued. Almost like 2 personalities. I think later she opened a pizzeria with her boyfriend somewhere on Long Island.

(2) Gina LaMarca (1995 POTY): Saw her sometime in 1996 or 1997 at a strip club in Queens...went with a bunch of friends after a Mets game (the team stunk back then, maybe we left early, I don't remember ). I think the place was all-nude but I remember it as being a bit 'rougher' than the classy topless clubs that were opening up in the early-1990's. This was when feature dancers could still make GREAT money for a week's work at a strip club; at the peak, I think some of the headliners commanded $25,000 a week. Even after it peaked, feature dancers with credentials -- like a POTY -- could get $5,000 for a week's worth easy. Not sure what the going rate is for feature dancers nowadays (anybody know ?).

Gina was nice, but had a couple of rough guys around her, either security and/or a boyfriend. One of the guys asked why she got into girl-boy and girl-girl layouts, but I couldn't pick up her answer over the music and loud talking. Gina did a pretty risque and explicit dance routine. She was good-looking and frankly I didn't think she had to go that route to make herself appear sexy. I found it a bit of a turn-off, but I was definitely in the minority that night.

(3) Ginger Miller (1989 POTY): An absolute dream. A super-sweet individual, very personable, and stunningly beautiful. Met her a few times in 1993 and 1994 when she was on tour (I think she toured as early as 1992 but either she never came to New York or I missed it. Probably never came; can't believe I would have missed an ad listing her). Bought her dinner one night when she was working because she was starving and the place had no food. So I went out, hit a diner, brought her back some food, and we ate in her dressing room ( I told her it was OK if she wanted to eat alone, she needed rest and some down time, but she was insistent that I eat with her). She had the cutest little dog who was with her while she toured and was in the room with her. Anyway, we just talked for a while and told me that she hadn't been doing much modeling work because she didn't want to do trashy T&A stuff. For the magazine, she explained, it was one thing -- she thought the photos were the best she'd ever done. But she wasn't going to cheapen herself with stuff she didn't like -- you couldn't help but be impressed with a woman like this.

Ironically, Ginger knew Kimberly when I mentioned her -- Kimberly was POTM the issue before Ginger's POTY issue in Jan 1989 -- and was surprised that she was doing bachelor parties. She thought it was kind of funny, but then volunteered that she wouldn't do them because she felt it was a bit beneath her and a bit more dangerous (1 girl vs. 15 guys and alcohol).

I had Ginger's address and sent her a Dallas Cowboys shirt she wanted (she was a huge Cowboys fan) a few weeks later but I lost contact with her and never found out if she got it. If I ever run into her again, that's the first thing I'm going to ask here. I did find out from a club out in California (probably one of her last jobs, she designed a calendar for them) that she got married and became a mom but moved out of state and they had no forwarding address for her.

Anyway, that's about all I can remember right now. Most of my in-depth talking was with Ginger Miller and I'm glad of that. She was a real sweet and beautiful person. The first time I met her I was really nervous and she could probably tell that but was really cool about it instead of treating me like some love-struck moron. She was really the only centerfold in my life that I ever really had a crush on and wanted to meet in person. I've met models and actresses and other centerfolds and been totally cool about it -- could care less in fact whether they were in the area or I got to meet them or whatever. But with her, it was like a little kid meeting his favorite baseball player after years of following him on TV.

In fact, she got a kick out of me telling her that when I saw the ad in a local paper announcing her appearance -- almost by accident -- I got so nervous that I couldn't eat lunch that day (I was reading the paper in a car on the way to lunch with co-workers). The first night I saw her act, I didn't talk to her because I was so nervous just seeing her in person. 2nd time was the first time I got up the nerve to talk to her and she couldn't believe I was at the club because she had gotten my letters from Penthouse and also the club (sent earlier in the week) requesting a replacement for a lost 8x10 of her.

Anyway, that's about all I can remember right now. We spent alot of time together but so much of it was out in the club with music blaring and people talking that we were mostly yelling at one another to be heard. Outside of when they were closing down the club or the time we had dinner together, it was tough to have a back-and-forth conversation except in bits-and-pieces.

Besides FOXY BOXING, Ginger is also in GELLORAMA, BEST CHEST IN THE WEST 2, BEST CHEST IN THE U.S., STAG PARTY, WILD BIKINIS, FOXY FOOD FIGHT, and a compilation video called INTIMATE FANTASY: MADE FOR MAN (this is unique because you get to hear Ginger talk at the beginning). These videos/DVDs come up for sale from time-to-time on Ebay and the web. There's also a YouTube video up showing Ginger talking on a morning talk show right after she was POTM -- she comes across fantastic for an 18- or 18-year old woman.

Ironically, she made an appearance on THE ROBIN BYRD SHOW which features strippers and centerfolds sometime in late-1993 but I have never been able to track down anybody with a copy of the show. She most likely does a dance routine and also talks during the Q&A session.

And did you know she was in the Rodney Dangerfield movie "BACK TO SCHOOL" ? Yup, she's there as a non-credited extra (she laughed about her movie appearances with me saying 'it was SOOOOOOO short' ). Anyway, if you go to the hot-tub scene where Thornton Mellon is throwing his big party you'll see Ginger in the background sitting on a bench with a champagne glass in her hand. She's wearing a pink bikini.

She's also in a crowd scene -- tougher to pick her out -- in the John Cuscack film "BETTER OFF DEAD". I think it's the cafeteria scene where all the students get up and split -- look for a long-haired blonde. That's her.

She's got a few brief scenes totalling 10 seconds on a TERRIBLE movie called "BEACH BEVERLY HILLS" where she doesn't even look like herself from the pictorials or the videos. I actually missed her the first time I saw the movie and had to re-wind and look more closely. She's bikini contestant #14 during the swimwear face-off.

She also appeared in the old HBO football comedy "1st & Ten" during I believe the 2nd season entitled "TRAINING CAMP" but I don't know what episode or what scene she appears in. Could be an uncredited quickie appearance or an extra. The show used to show lots of good-looking girls in quick nudie or topless or risque scenes. Unfortunately, the show has been released in an edited form without laughtrack and with major editing so I doubt anything she did survived the editing process. If anybody has the complete series on videotape or can find the unedited versions, this would be a good one to check out.

IMDB lists a few other movies where she had appearances but it may be another woman with the same name. Or maybe her appearance got cut in the final released versions. Anyway, I scanned and re-scanned the movies and could not find her at all in the most likely scenes. Strange.....

And the ad announcing her appearance in New York at the club she danced at (since closed) it also said she was on Tom Snyder's old show and even THE TONIGHT SHOW (not sure if it was Jay Leno or Johnny Carson). I suspect that she was on each show for only a few seconds, maybe in some gag skit or something. I wish I had asked her at the time but I forgot.

I've been lurking around the board for a month or two, but I haven't posted anything yet, largely because this place is so amazing that everything I've got has already been posted by somebody else. However, I was digging through some back issues of PH and found something that hasn't, Robin Brown's original Truck Stop pictorial. The most significant difference, of course, is the very last picture, which I believe is the only oral penetration shot Robin ever did.

My scanner kinda sucks, so I had to increase the resolution to make them a little sharper, hence the huge size of some of the pics. These pages have also been sitting in a Xerox box in the closets of my various apartments for 15 years (has it really been that long?), which accounts for the wrinkles. Hey, at least none of them were stuck together, right?

Sweet Bird of Youth - December 1986
