The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, although good lead performances from both James Stewart and John Wayne, Lee Marvin out classed them and was brilliant as Liberty Valance, just oozed violence and menace with a single glance.
True Grit, always liked this just hope the remake lives up to it.
The Professionals, Lee Marvin always looked so cool.
The Wild Bunch, one of the best staged gunfight ending in a western
Northwest Passage,
She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, one of my favourite John Wayne movies, the lines between Victor McLaglen and Mildred Natwick after the bar fight great
Natwick – Aren’t you ashamed eight of you picking on one poor man
McLaglen – Only seven, Ma.an
El Dorado, preferred it more then Rio Bravo, as there was some go moments if all main characters trying to say James Caan’s characters name.

I am just watching The Big Country that I recorded earlier from film4.

Damn I had forgotten just how good this film is, not only as a western but a very powerful film in its own right.

Absolutely brilliant right from the start with that theme tune and Gregory Peck gives one of his finest performances.

and that superb theme....

A Gregory Peck Western generally seemed to in defy the conventions of the genre. Take a look at "The Bravados" and "The Gunfighter" for evidence of this. Some might include "Duel in the Sun" (droll humourists have called it "Lust in the Dust"), but I prefer to ignore this mess of a film (IMO). BTW, to this day I insist that "MacKenna's Gold" if proof that Peck had an evil twin.

Once Upon a Time in the West (You just can't go wrong with Henry Fonda, Charles Bronson, and ominous harmonica music).
The Great Silence
True Grit (The original; I didn't care for the Coen brothers' adaptation)

Once Upon a Time in the West is a great film. The Wild Bunch is up there too. True Grit with John Wayne certainly. The Outlaw Josey Wales is a film that I have seen scores of time and never get bored with watching it. Pale Rider with Clint Eastwood too is a great film IMO.
Open Range with Robert Duval and Kenvin Costner is brilliant, and it has, in my opinion, one of the best shoot outs ever in a western, twenty feet apart and just blazing away at whatever moves, rather than the usual bullet between the eyes at 500 yards type of shoot out. And finally, Dances with Wolves.... a classic in every sense!

I have never been a fan of Western movies but anything by Sergio Leone and Sergio Corbucci goes.
