Where did you hear that Norbert? Franklin founded the first Abolishment organization in America, and granted, our teachers didn't tell us everything about American History and even lied to us on occasion, but I have never heard of Benjamin Franklin ever owning slaves.

If you have information, please share.

I don't think I know Rakija, at least not under that name

But I had Sliwowitz in Germany once. Just one glass, given to me by a Jugoslav at about 8 in the morning. It seemed 'rich and heavy' (almost sweet, if I remember correctly). Many drinks from the Balkan area seem 'heavy' to me

But I would invite you and Estreeter to test the quality

He was publishing ads for slave trading and even for the search for escaped slaves. Franklin and his wife Deborah had also their own slaves in Philadelphia. However, he wrote his first article against slavery in 1729. I'm not saying that Franklin was a decisive supporter of slavery but while gradually developing his sympathy for the Abolishment movement, he still thought of it as an "economical necessity" that should be abolished "some time later". But his commitment to the abolishment of slavery in his later life is a fact.

They distil it from plums (which is why it's called sljivovica; from Serbo-Croatian sljiva, meaning plum), grapes and pears. So, Sliwowitz is rakija of plums. The alcohol content is more likely to vary from country to country (only talking about the countries in Central and Southeastern Europe) but it can be up to 70%, especially the private distilled ones. Though very strong, it's a remarkably refreshing and good-tasting drink, much better than whiskey.
