I was at the Donauinselfest (Danube Island Festival) last night for the first time after a couple of years. It's the biggest open-air free music festival in Europe and lasts 3 days (friday, saturday and sunday). The reason why I went there is to see Europe (the band). They appeared on stage at 10:30 pm and played till midnight including some of the old hits like Cherokee, Carrie and The Final Countdown.

I watched Glastonbury this weekend, and yes Coldplay were excellent, Beyoncé was typically over the top but being only the second female in 40 odd years to headline the closing she really put a lot into it. I also enjoyed the Kaiser Chiefs(but they didn't show them playing I Predict A Riot) and I think I missed the Wombles

Gawd it was hot yesterday, at least 88F in London and around 86F in outlying areas and last night was just on the point of bearable but it was a pig, dog, cat, rabbit, hamster and three-toed sloth of a night...thank goodness it will break shortly. It's so hot upstairs I am typing this in my father's study and this is usually the coolest place in the house, but even now it's getting stifling in here...time to go.

I still think U2 are one of the best live bands around today and the best my generation produced. Also that Paul David Hewson is one of the best lyricists around, but he has delved so far up his own rear orifice so as to render himself blind to what his own countrymen are going through at the moment. Seems he and Mick (Jagger) have more in common than he'd care to admit.

I can't think of another band being so musically overrated than U2. I'd agree they're a great live band (although they did not impress me last year when I saw them) but one must distinguish between artistic creativity and a show. Bono is one of those people who fights against poverty while having millions on his account without mentioning the real cause for worldwide poverty. He can also act like he's fighting for human rights while kissing the pope's hand who condemns gays, women's struggles for rights, abortion and the use of condoms that could save millions of lifes, especially in Africa. He's not U2's vocalist, he's their CEO.
