Default What mags did you buy and are still buying

Me I started on Parade as a lad and then moved on to Mayfair.Still have every issue from volume 8 to 26. Plus all the special issues. Stopped buying it when Paul Raymond bought it out, didnt like the changes he made to, plus the models were not the same girl next door type. Though I did buy volume 28 number 12 as it had the lovley Maria Whitaker in it.

I started by Club International back in 1989 when in my late teens, and continued to buy it on and off through out the 1990s and early 2000s. I also bought a number of issues of Men's World during the mid-1990s as well during what was probably the magazine's best period. Many of the pretties on the pages of these publications helped me break up the tedium of studying late into the small hours!

Of course, shifting about between student digs and my parents' place I couldn't really start building a stash for fear of having them discovered - I often binned them.

Around five years ago I started buying Club again, and thought it might be a good idea to hunt down a few of the more memorable issues... Having done this, I decided I just wanted to have an entire run of the mag from 1989, and have set about that mission - I am around a dozen issues short. I also managed to cobble together a nice four-year run of MW from 1994 to 1997 (only needing one issue to complete this "set") and recently bought a nice little lot of Men Onlys - the aim there being to do the same as with the MWs.

So, in short, I have bought Club (since 1989) and Men's World (between 1994 and 1997) and occasionally Men Only (again, between 1994 and 1997). I also bought the odd issue of Mayfair depedent on the cover or potential content.

These days I am still buying mags - the Internet is great and I have built a nice digital archive, but there's nothing quite like holding a lovely porno in your hands and slowly leafing through it. I am still buying Club - of course - but since 2008 I have also bought Just Girls. In addition to this I am on the lookout for any decent PRP specials - all of the Club spin-offs: Best Of, Girl on Girl, Dirty Doubles; a great new Mayfair lingerie series; The Best of Men's World and Men Only.

At present I have around 400 mags and counting!

When I first starting buying my own, I usually went to Nini's Corner in Harvard Square. I looked young for my age, and they didn't give me dirty looks and a hard time for ID at Nini's Corner. I was 18, but I could pass for 14! Boy, did that suck! The famed Out of Town News store (which you have seen if you have seen "The Paper Chase" or "Good Will Hunting") was staffed by angry feminist clerks who gave me the evil eye and demanded ID.

Unfortunately, Nini's got busted in a sting. They'd still sell to me, but now they were just as uptight as Out of Town News.

Both these places had a decent selection, but nothing really hardcore. I was just buying the standard H*stler, Cl*b, PH, and the like. I did go in for a few of the import mags, but I found the paper stock and the photography really terrible. I won't mention which ones because each has big fans here!

Actually, I lived in the suburbs, but I didn't want to buy porn in my town because frikkin' people talked, and they liked to talk about ME! I didn't have a car, so I couldn't really drive to other 'burbs. I hung out in Harvard Square because that was the hip place for us punks and goths and it's where I could buy the records and books I was looking for. I used to catch the bus to Boston and the MBTA to Harvard Square. It was never for the express purpose of buying porn. It was more to get out of the frikkin' suburbs!

I knew there was more hardcore stuff in the redlight district in Boston, but I was too nervous to go into those places. I looked like I didn't belong in the first place, and in the second, I was what the old perverts would call "a piece o' chicken!"

Later when I started driving, and driving quite long distances between college and home, I would just pop into a roadside convenience store and buy a H*stler or H*gh Society with my gasoline and snacks. Then I'd just drive off into the darkness with Philip Glass or Kronos Quartet blasting on the stereo! I had kind of a weird set of tastes. Still do!

I lost interest in the new stuff when it all became the same generic blur of shaved bodies and fake boobs. That's when I hit the flea markets and dug up a lot of the good old stuff.

Once the Internet got big and I got my own computer, I put my magazine collection in storage, where it subsequently got stolen. That's one of the reasons I download more than I upload here!

Still buy them, consider myself a collector. Love the medium, and just find mags (and their covers) very alluring. As a younger member of the community (in my late 20s) I've been buying regularly since a couple of years before I turned 18, when I took my first nervous steps to get issues of Mayfair and Club. Naturally my interest and collection blossomed, and I've recently bought my 1200th magazine.

I consider 'my' titles to be the main six Paul Raymond mags - ie Club, Escort, Mayfair, Men Only, Men's World and Razzle, which I've religiously bought each month now since about 2004. Along with back issues I've got around 150 of each of these titles - a high of 185 Escorts to a puny 119 Men's World's! (For those not in the know, these titles come in annual 'Volumes' of 13 issues, so in the case of Escort I have around 14 year's worth - with gaps in these collections I hope to fill of course.) Also have a good number of other mainstream UK titles like Fiesta, Knave, Just 18 and the long-lost Ravers, which I hope to one day get the complete collection of! Currently about half way there.

I have a grab bag of assorted titles I've picked up due to discounts, covergirls, and even a few because of fascinating-sounding titles, including the oddly romantic sounding Spanish 'Pretty Woman' to the unforgettable 'New Cunts' which I'd heard of, but once I saw a copy in the flesh I knew I had to have just one copy!

There's definitely a large element of the 'guy with a collection' habit in all this, and every so often I ponder if/when I'll have to give it all up. For now though, it's to be enjoyed. There's worse things for a guy to know he has stored under his bed, after all…!

I very rarely buy mags now but, a couple of years ago when the exchange rate was good (£ to $) I took out a subsription to Legshow which was worth it(probably the only mag I would ever consider)
Now I believe they offer it as a PDF download for about$35 a year so I'm considering it again

I have a digital subscription to both Pl@yboy and P*nthouse. I also buy hard copy editions of any of them I think are collectible and place them in magazine protectors. M@xim is another that I frequently by, but it usually boils down to those with models I really want to see in risque fashion.

Now we have the internet, I no longer buy any magazines but I am alway looking for site where retro magazines are scanned. Modern porn is pretty bland. Nice girls but poor photoshoots. I can remember buying Mayfair, Club, Penthouse and Playboy and anything else I could find. I think that there ought to be a repository for all the softcore porn magazines in the British Library, now 30 years on they are an interesting part of history.
