I shot a few couples (semi-amateur/pro) in London in the 90s. In every case, the guy wasn't hard to start with, and unless the girl was stimulating him, he went soft quite quickly. Well I'm not a professional model, and I had no problem getting hard on the occasions I was filmed/shot despite (or because of) nerves. Stills were trickier than video (IME) as the photographer was able to direct and ask for positions which inevitable leads to stop-starting and harder to cum. With videos it was easier to get into a rhythm and work towards the pop shot. But then I could abstain for as long as I wanted, whereas the times I shot couples, it may not have been their (his) first shoot. Certainly the second video I shot, the stud had just finished a shoot before, and had another photographer following me.

To be honest, I am sure we would have heard if there was some "anti-viagra" in use in 1980s UK porn Besides, the cheapest (and safest|) way to achieve that would be alcohol

Regarding guys "controlling themselves", I also don't think there was a special squad of trained semi-studs - it's just too complicated !

The bottom line is, whatever you may think looking at/watching porn, the actual reality on set is not the hornfest it seems. It's quite an odd environment - if nothing else, the stud is in a situation where another guy not only sees him get hard - and probably cum - but has to see him get hard (and probably cum). That in itself can be a challenge - especially if the stud is straight. I suspect an awful lot of porns shoots involve the stud desperately trying to concentrate on the female model, and blank out the photographer - and that's just the more basic shoots. If you look at the really high-class stuff, there's an army of people involved. Lighting/sound for a start. The more people you have, then the harder (no pun intended) to get, stay - and perform hard for the guy. Any guy. Which is why you see the same old faces in porn. Reliability is a premium.

So really the question is not how did those guys stay soft, but how on earth did the hardcore guys stay so hard and (for video) actually manage to cum ?
