Got my first modem around Easter 1997. Logged in through A0L - yeah, one of those free discs that appeared in every magazine around that time. A0L had their own dedicated search engine and graphics browser, with pretty lousy resolution, and any pics I found and downloaded always came out grainy.
I think amongst the first lass I looked for was Sam Fox. And wowser! Finding actual naked pics of her?!? Fairly safe to say that at the time very few folks here in the UK knew she had done full nudity. I soon discovered the joys of newsgroups. In those days there was far less spam around, so looking in a group about Brit Girls tended to actually produce results - I remember amassing a large collection of pics of Charmaine Sinclair, Lucy Gresty, Tiffany Walker et al. I also spend a great deal of time on the flight-sim newsgroup - in those days major titles used to come out at regular intervals, and the developers used to participate in discussions on the group. Nowadays we see a new sim every 3 or 4 years in average. I must say, I do sometimes miss the anticipation of watching a pic download over dial-up - seeing it fill in line by line, hoping it doesn't hang just before you see the interesting parts! Can't say as I miss that bloody awful screeching sound of the modem communicating, of the cost of paying by the minute for access. It still flabbergasts me when I realise just how massive a part of life the internet is nowadays.

Like Greenman, I went for the first time online in 1999. It was in the Siemens Museum here in Vienna. The first websites I was browsing were Altavista, the Austrian porn magazine ÖKM and the online phone directory of the Austrian postal service. I'd soon discover sites like Rotten or Yahoo.

First thing I ever looked for online was "fatigue in copper piping". Very early 90's I guess.
First model I searched for was probably Kirsten Imrie. Then I found newsgroups and stayed there for a long time. Then I found Yahoo groups, then I found the VEF. Cheers, Dumbassgo.

I cannot remember the first thing I browsed for because it was a long, long time ago when the defacto browser was Mosaic, circa early 90s. First porn surf was within the then increasingly popular Usenet, when pictures were GIF files and no bigger than your thumb.

I was using a dial-up modem too. Up all night and I only saw 8 women! Also got stung by a dialler virus, landing me with a phone bill of 300 quid . Did any of you guys get stung in the early days?

I wouldn't say stung but I always felt cheated that BT took money off my Dad when it failed to connect me after 14 attempts to dial-up and listening to that incessant noise. I had a trick whereby I had a timer which counted down the minutes that I was allowed-online for 10mins(yeah I know that sounds mad now) but when you consider we were charged 1p a minute, it was cheaper 1 1/2p a minute to be online longer at weekends. Surprisingly I did manage to do quite alot in 10mins. I found a load of german magazine sites that regularly featured page 3 girls posing as their Girl of the Week/Day etc. I can also confirm I took great chunks out of my only wall when hitting a cardboard box(in total frustration with dial up) with my Gran's old walking stick and missing it!! Thank god I went onto ASDL.

Only got online two and a half years ago at the age of 45, still on my first laptop.
First site I visited was the BBC's cricket page......well who wouldnt Next day I heard on TV they were turning on the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, and there was a live feed.....spent the next 8 hours watching in amazement, and wondering why I hadn't got on line sooner! Wasnt long before I was looking for porn, but found my way to VEF looking for an old memory...the first pair of tit's I'd seen on TV, Leonie Mellinger in 1980's 'Sons and lovers'.....Didnt quite live up to the memory's, but was glad to find it none the less Found so much more since |
