I was seven years old when man landed on the moon. I am still in awe of that accomplishment. It saddens me that we haven't been back in 43 years. The attitude of, "We've been to the moon, there's nothing there, so why bother going back or farther out?" That's the equivalent of living in the middle of nowhere, walking out on your porch, not being able to see your neighbor and saying, there's no one there.

We always talk about the achievement of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, but what of the third member of the crew, Michael Collins? While Neil and Buzz were thrilling the world by placing their footprints on an alien world, Mike was in orbit around the moon alone. I have a hard time imagining such isolation. Plus the thought that if anything went wrong on the surface of the moon, he would be returning to Earth alone.

I like to think that I would not be star-struck at meeting any celebrity. However, meeting any of the three men of Apollo 11 might put that to the test.

BB doesn't believe this thread exists.

I remember the first moon landing very well, although somehow at the time it didn't seem important to me.

I was 19 and was only interested in cars, guitars, money, drugs and trying to get regular sex with someone other than myself .

I was 18 at the time, and on the day they landed I was at a Blind Faith concert with some friends. It was not a great show. They argued all through it, Rik Grech threw his vilin at Steve Winwood after Stevie cut off his solo, Ginger Baker threw up all over his drums at the end of "Do What You Like." The moon landing was much cooler and a much happier memory. Let's go to Mars.

I was 4 going on 5 at the time, so it was pretty foggy for me.
I remember mom and dad yelling at me to come watch this and I did. B&W grainy pictures and broken audio but I was patient.

But I finally had to ask....."Are there Phasers in this?"
My family roared with laughter. Always a Star Trek fan.

I'm glad they put my butt in front of the TV.
I wish there were more films and documentaries on it. I still love the movie "The Right Stuff". HBO's "From the Earth to the Moon" was pretty good.Did any of you guys have the plastic models? I had the space walker and the Lunar Lander/Command Module.

Just in case any of you guys get a lander I wanted you to know that there is a repair manual for it. I'm sure the astronauts had one in the glove box. (I hope the Pics not too big or from the wrong source)

On DISH Network (Eastern US) there is absolutely NO related documentary or news programming scheduled for Sunday, the anniversary of the landing. What a crock.

Loved those Apollo model kits! My favorite was the 1/48 Revell which included the whole spacecraft stack, from the launch escape tower down to the LM & S-IVB panels. Also built the 1/144 Saturn V.

Default The 'First' moon landing...

I was a week short of my tenth birthday then, I stayed up all night to watch it on a friend of my parents large tv screen.....

I didn't believe it then, and I do not believe it happened 45 years later!

I do believe that we, the Americans!, have been there, but not on that first Apollo landing in July 1969.

This was debated, quite heatedly, in the conspiracy thread here in the GD&N forum on VEF. a while back.

I remember that someone said that they didn't believe it either to 'Buzz' Aldrin on a TV show, and he got up and punched them! He was well into his 70's at the time too!

It just didn't add up to this little boys mind as 'real' in 1969, and 45 years later it still doesn't add up to this near 55 year old 'Little' boys mind.

Just my 2 cents.
