Adding to tertium's evidences, I have another one:

However, in some scenes of Lynda in Bobbie Jo, her left nipple seems to be right on center. So it's not so conclusive.

I believe it's legit. Besides CLEARLY not being Colleen's body, it's also not the body of Cynthia Wood or Linda Carpenter. I never saw any photo of Lynda's face in this position with this look that she had in between WW pilot and the following episode (her eyebrows are particularly from that time, but there are very few pics of that).

Plus, I never saw a painting of Lynda that got her looks EXACTLY right.

The breasts and areolas have the same format. Her fingers are exatly like Lynda's, and she usually didn't paint her nails.

I have some doubts about the distance of the breasts from her belly button, but it's not something that can be proved.

And since Coppolla confirmed that Lynda was replaced by Colleen... And Colleen herself said she replaced "Linda" (some posters here debated over this, but it's pretty common to see someone typing "Linda" - which is actually her birthname - instead of Lynda)... I am almost sure it's Lynda Carter for real

I watched the first scene of the playmates in Apocalypse Now Redux. It's the onstage show. All three centerfolds from the playmates appear, held by soldiers in the crowd. First is Cindy Wood's, the centerfold from Feb 73. Second is Linda Carpenter's, from Aug 76 (the one in the bathroom which was posted here before). Then appears Colleen's, held by the guy who is fascinated by her. Her centerfold then appears on some subsequent scenes on the boat.

The centerfold from Colleen's character is the only one that was shot for the movie, as she wasn't a real playmate. The others' already existed, so they didn't have to shoot anything.

Now, on the wonderland site, there are some magazine articles about Lynda Carter on the movie. Some of them claim that she did shot some scenes. Some of them even say like she was going to be the playmate in the final version, maybe before or not knowing that she was going to be replaced by Colleen.

Quote:
Her second film is not yet release: Francis Ford Coppola's Vietnam war epic Apocalypse Now, filmed partly on location in the Phillipines in the midst of nearly impossible weather conditions when typhoon Olga hit the island of Luzon. The film company was, to quote from a tune by the Cadets, stranded in the jungle -helplessly watching their sets being reducted to shambles by the relentless downpour. Telephone communications were cut off, all bridges were down. One group of actors and technicians were sequestered across the river, while Coppola and additional cast members, including Lynda, were with another group at Olongapo. For three days each gathering was totally isolated from the others ten miles away, not knowing if their colleagues were alive. Fortunately there were no casualties. During her two and a half weeks in the Phillippines, Lynda spent most of the time slogging about in the mud clad in Army fatigues and combat boots, hoping with everyone else to get production underway again. Eventually Apocalypse Now resumed filming and she was able to complete her scenes, after which she returned stateside to start work on the first of eleven 60-minute Wonder Woman specials.
Anyway, if we get to know that she did shot at least the first scene, then there was the shooting of the centerfold, then at least the picture EXISTS or EXISTED.

“An interesting side note. Is that the three playmates were cast before the typhoon, and as I recall Colleen was a replacement. One of the original girls was Lynda Carter who then got the part to be in Wonder Woman and so she didn’t come back and Colleen came back in her place.” –Francis Ford Coppola
http://youtu.be/INfOlSps2BQ?t=6m4s

Lynda was definitely cast as a Playboy Playmate before the Typhoon. Colleen Camp definitely replaced her.

The problem Coppola faced when he replaced Carter for Camp was that the centerfold prop held by Chef on the boat, was then affixed to the panel behind the captains area.

The centerfold prop became set decoration. It has to be in every shot showing that part of the boat from the time Chef tapes it up until he takes it down at the muddy Army Depot.

If Coppola shot scenes of the boat during or before the monsoon he has to copy the Lynda Carter centerfold as closely as possible or he risks continuity errors.

If we find a scene that was shot prior to or during the monsoon, then the centerfold prop/set decoration that appears on film will be Lynda Carter and not Colleen Camp.

Coppola specifically states in the Apocalypse Now Redux commentary that the exterior shots of the army depot where the playboy playmates are stranded were filmed during the monsoon:
http://youtu.be/6N6W16OyLnM?t=5m54s

If the patrol boat is shown during these scenes, the poster attached behind the captain’s area is Lynda Carter and not Colleen Camp.

The poster is shown 3 times. In the first shot it’s raining too hard to make out anything other than a smudge. But here are screencaps of the other 2 shots from an 18gb Blue Ray d/l. I believe these are the highest resolution available:

Colleen wasn’t cast until after the monsoon. Logic dictates that the poster is Lynda Carter.

There is also definitive visual proof that the centerfold is Lynda Carter and not Colleen Camp. The proof is this small light area right here:

The background to the right of the centerfold’s head is lighter than the background to the left of her head.

This contrast occurs in the Lynda Carter photo, but not in the Colleen Camp photo:

The background on either side of Colleen’s head is the same. The background doesn’t lighten on Colleen’s right side until it reaches her shoulder.

The poster that is taped up on this Vietnam era gun boat in the middle of a monsoon in the Philippines is a topless centerfold of Lynda Carter.

These are Lynda Carter’s breasts:

I believe the Harvey 1983 magazine has either painted Lynda’s eyes, or the camera shook when they took a photo of the original centerfold prop because on high magnification Lynda’s irises are doubled. So far the best image I believe is from the Expose October 1982 magazine. Are there any earlier publications of the centerfold? If not it would be great to have the highest resolution, cleanest scan of the Expose photo.

I was watching the movie again looking for Lynda's centerfold (as you said before that it might had appeared), but I didn't noticed.

Good job finding it, I think the case is solved now. I'm 100% sure that the famous Lynda Carter centerfold is legit.

Just a rude comparison:

Notice the right hand. The hair over the chest in Colleen is not seen on the centerfold of the boat either. Notice how the waist of Colleen doesn't match. Also, the color of the Colleen's jacket and pants are pretty much the same, while Lynda's are different, as it is in the centerfold on the boat.

And Colleen didn't match when I overlayed. Lynda did.

Now allow me to post my retouched version of the centerfold in commemoration!

I will try to get you up the max resolution Expose scan. It is many MB (529MB photoshop with top and bottom scans in it) so hard to find a home online. Any ideas?

I was about to give you a snide "dude, that is not proof, that is the scan of the Expose page in my basement" but then I actually read it. I think the scan you have put up is a composite I made (it has my staple holes in it), but that has nothing to do with your proof.

I agree the poster in the movies stills is the Lynda poster. That area is so much lighter than in the Colleen poster. Obvious once you see it, and no-one would disagree. Good detective work.

I don't agree that the early poster existence, by itself, proves that the Lynda poster is not an airbrush poster. What it does prove is that the Lynda poster was created during the movie shoot.

With that, there was no opportunity or reason to airbrush it that makes sense. No time. No way. No point.

However, I do wonder why there is a Colleen poster at all. There were later, non-monsoon scenes?

This is THE nail in the coffin of the airbrush pretense that Expose used to get away with publishing. Very clever of them.

Here, expose Face at full scan resolution. I don't know why the eyes seem browner.

UPDATE - 1/6/2016 - Full scans also posted in main Lynda Carter thread.

In celebration I will do my best fake using the high res HS of your choice, if you so choose. Not this one, it is too grainy.

Yes, there are a lot of scenes where the Colleen poster appears. In fact, on a scene that it appears on the boat, the right top is covered by some soldier's clothes, almost as if they were trying to hide the difference of that spot between the two centerfolds.

Found a couple of production designs which should be of interest to this discussion. Here's the relevant text and pictures. You can see Lynda Carter's name written on the second image:

Original Lynda Carter "Miss May" Playboy Bunny costume sketch for Apocalypse Now:

Description:
Original Lynda Carter “Miss May” Playboy Bunny costume sketch for Apocalypse Now. (United Artists, 1979) In Francis Ford Coppola’s classic war epic, Apocalypse Now, Lynda Carter was cast as touring Playboy Bunny “Miss May”, stranded in war-ravaged Vietnam. But when a real-life typhoon destroyed the film set and Carter’s Wonder Woman hiatus ended, scheduling conflicts arose and the part was recast. While Colleen Camp stepped into the role, much peripheral and promotional material had already been generated around Carter. Here are (2) Costume sketches for Lynda Carter as “Miss May”. Including: (1) Sketch accomplished in pencil on 14 x 17 in. artist leaf tipped to 18 x 22 in. board depicting Carter in scanty American Indian-themed costume. With many pencil notes and detail study sketches in the margins and (1) 8.5 x 11 in. sketch on 3-hole punch paper with a pencil and ink detail of a moccasin with additional paste-up elements including pencil notes. It’s been said that Carter’s unused Playboy centerfold generated for the movie looks almost identical to the Colleen Camp centerfold seen posted on the film’s river patrol boat. Included is a copy of the October 1979 issue of Playboy magazine, featuring an article on Apocalypse Now, which includes an image of the resulting Colleen Camp “Miss May” centerfold and a picture of the patrol boat with the centerfold posted on the wheelhouse. All in very good condition. Comes with an LOA from production designer.

The definitive proof (if there wasn't enough) that Lynda was in the movie. Screenshot taken from this video, which shows Lynda's house.

Lynda on the set of the movie with Frederic Forrest, Laurence Fishburne and Martin Sheen.

Late to the party (a painfully apt catchphrase for my comments on the WWW), I just finished reading this discussion. All of it was amazing, the evidence and the detective work and the technical details, but most impressive was the civility found throughout. The exchanges between members with strongly held positions remained polite, and, in the end, several members graciously changed their minds. For that, a citation in the Guinness book should be awarded.

The process that played itself out here is surprisingly like "Science". Scientific theories can't be proven true, because each one remains vulnerable to an astute, but unforeseen, observation that sends it to the dustbin. The authenticity of a photo without a chain of custody (like here) is similarly vulnerable to a single disqualifying observation. Meaning that while the authenticity of this photo seems to be exceedingly probable (to me, anyway), its authenticity cannot be 100% proven.
