Good question - I think you're right. It seems that the copyright to the earlier song had expired no later than 1949, according to this. I suppose if you were just humming it, as opposed to singing it, you could play safe by going 'dah dah dah, dah dah' as opposed to 'da-da dah dah, dah dah', the 'sole melodic alteration' mentioned in the article.

Speaking of copyrights. Three things cannot be copyrighted - song titles, a song's ideas and chord progressions. (Thank god for the later or there would be no blues and there would not be a lot of early rock.)

Also, John Fogerty - formerly of CCR - was sued in 1988 for plagiarizing himself. The songs in question were "Run Through the Jungle" and "The Old Man Down the Road". Fogerty ultimately won the case against Saul Zaentz, who owned CCR’s old label Fantasy Records and also owned the copyright to “Run Through the Jungle.”

If it was changed all those years ago then surely that phrase is out of copyright? Same song, different lyrics. Actually, you don't have to worry.

Most public places have licenses that cover the public performance of music, your singing included.

If you're in a private place, who's going to find out?

If you're really worried, and don't want to look daft, just sing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow". Public domain all the way around the world.

For most states in the EU, the age of consent is 14 or 15. In Spain it's only 13, and most EU states say it's under 16

Of course. there are legal variables, and many young people start very early whether we like it or not. But these laws really surprised me

Yes there are some suprising laws, Turkish Northern Cyprus has no minimum age of consent for males.
