Default Are TV Series released on the Mill Creek Label of a Subpar Quality?

Hey everyone,

I have bought a few TV series on DVD that are released on the Mill Creek label and I have been dissatisfied with the picture quality on them! They actually have quite a bit of Grain then I expected. A lot more grainy than when I've seen them in reruns on retro networks like Antenna TV in recent years. Shows like Good Times, Married With Children and The Partridge Family.

All of them have the episodes on two disc sets per season for the exception of season one of Good Times, which has 13 episodes on disc.

I have since noticed on the internet that all these shows they have been released on bigger labels in 3 disc sets per season. Would I have benefitted better with buying the more expensive 3 disc set versions released through the bigger companies?

I have the first 3 seasons of the King of Queens which are all 3 disc sets per season and the picture quality are fantastic on them.

Thanks!

I gotten stuff from them (TV series from 70's and 80's) where the picture is still 640x480 video tape quality with lots of pixelation and wash out and grainyness.

Why would you spent time and money to put so many seasons of one series on DVD and leave it at its original TV broadcast quality?

Exactly! One would think they'd take more pride in making a better product. I'm so disappointed, especially when I found them at Dollar General for a low price.

It's not just them.

I bought the William Shatner's T. J. Hooker complete series on DVD back in February.

It was in 640x480 and that DVD set is put out by Shout Factory! which is guilty of the same thing with many of their classic 60's to 80's TV series.

I have every episode of T. J. Hooker that I recorded from A&E that looks better than this DVD set.

Reason I bought this is because 1. I thought it would be in 720p or 1080p and 2. when A&E broadcasted the complete series back in 2005, they cut the episodes down from an average of length of 48 minutes to about 35 to make room for more commercial breaks.

Their sales pitch says it all - value priced

The other thing to be very wary of is old series which have significant parts removed
Political correctness is very real

I could name half a dozen names i dont go near because they cut corners to maximise profits
Its across the board not just at the cheap end

In Best / Worst Box Sets / TV Series of current and all time etc etc !.

Yet because of the BBC being so tight with the money the box set is a horrible buy. The theme tune has gone, big cuts are made because of the music being played was not paid for by the BBC. Large bits of some episodes are missed because the PC brigade don't like the tone or language used. In some cases the episodes make no sense and lose continuity because of these cuts. A great show but a rubbish box set.

Also old TV series with their original great music soundtrack removed for the DVD set because the DVD company would not pay for the music copyright.

Fastlane, remember that? With Tiffany Amber Thiessen, sound track changed.

It had a killer soundtrack!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fastla...s)#DVD_release

Also I think some episodes of Miami Vice on DVD had the soundtrack changed.

Same for WKRP, Tour of Duty (the Vietnam war series), Wonder Years, Married With Children and many others.
