Something to think about,
How many of the products you buy at a supermarket are wrapped in plastic
Yep, They are concerned for the environment

That's a whole different ball game and again, there are changes afoot in the UK surrounding the law and disposable (one time use) and excessive plastic packaging.

Supermarkets and manufacturers on the whole don't give a stuff about the environment, that's why legislation is needed.

What could, or what do they plan to use an alternative to plastic?

Then down the road someone will find that new material contains harmful toxins/properties which contaminates the food and has been found to cause cancer or some other disease -- and they will then be back to plastic. Round and round we go!

No idea. Most likely paper and card. All sorts of ideas being floated around on the reduction of plastic (public water fountains), recycling of plastic bottles, paying less in coffee shops if you use your own cup.

I would think that it would need to be something transparent because people need, and want, to see what they are buying. I can pretty much guarantee that people would not be any too happy, pleased, or willing to buy anything, especially edible products, sight unseen.
For example, I certainly would not buy any meat products/steaks unless I could first see and check out its size, cut, fat content and color.

These plastic bags at supermarkets

Quite some years back we switched to those as they are, allegedly, biodegradable.

Now some clown started how they are clogging up our waterways and oceans, so our 2 big supermarket giants decided to stop issuing them for free and. Now we either gotta bring our own or buy bags there at a 15 cent cost per bag ... that are made of, plastic Initially many were pleased at the green policy not realising how much they've been duped.

Many in the public are now pissed off so what does one of the giants think of going back to the bags they stopped issuing

Yep people just don't think, as soon as something is a green issue most just buy it as gospel till the bigger picture is exposed
That same thing happened in all the grocery and other stores all over Chicago. If a customer does not bring their own bag they are charged 7 cents for the supemarket and othere store bags. Luckily the supermarkets warned customers that they were going to do this in advance and I bought a huge box of 250 of these great strong plastic bags with handles from a supermarket called Treasure Island. I keep 4 of these huge, strong bags in the trunk of my car, so that whenever I go shopping to any supermarket I can use them. And these bags last a long time. In the past two years I still am using the original 4 bags.

Don't use them. You don't know what kind of metal it is. It might be toxic!

I don't use any straws apart from milk shakes made at home.
That's how stupid this world is becoming, can't wait for the once to be used plastic cutlery to be banned because some knucklehead has a stick up their ass about them.

A bio-degradable stick probably.
