Classical Music.
Right then, Here I am once more starting yet another thread that may die. I dunno.
I am no expert of music but I know what I like. 'Classical' Is just an umbrella really from anything from Medaeviel right up to 20th century (as far as I know stuff). This is just a thread to post something classical you like. It's not looking for technical music analysis, just spreading the music to others to enjoy. Here is my first post and blimey, what a choice of composer: Shostakovich. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lp4444gU8D4 |

Good Old Neville Marriner
My all time favorite classical recording is now pretty hard to find: J.S. Bach Concertos- Academy Of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Neville Marriner. On the Argos (Decca) label, circa 1975. In particular, I just love the Concerto for Three Violins in D major. I first heard this piece in the Dallas Galleria, and purchased it on the spot.
Cheers,

Just a question to you all: Do you think or feel that composers such as Stockhausen and styles such a musique concrete should be posted here too (if you enjoy)?

Anything by The English Concert conducted by Trevor Pinnock, especially the harpsichord concertos. Also Shostakovich Symph. No. 11 conducted by Stokowski.

I enjoy a wide range of classical music, particularly the following:-
Possibly the greatest symphony ever written, Beethoven 9 Possilby the symphony with the greatest final movement, Sibelius 5 And just because I like it, Saint-Saens Organ Symphony. From opera, the Duet from The Pearl Fishers, preferably sung by Jussi Bjorling & Robert Merrill. |

Can't go wrong with the former nations' favourite The Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughan-Williams or his trilogy of English folk songs. Classic FM is my station of choice and although I can't stand choir music(except at Christmas with the carols etc) I do like to listen late at night, particularly on a warm night in the Summer when you can't sleep-very relaxing.

Thanks for this thread. I'm a lover of classics, and one of my favourite work is "Die Moldau", (Smetana). When i'm listening this sound i'm seeing the river, ... every part of music is a different part of the water course...
