The Girls of the old spick and span

Recently, Nostalgia have been selling off some of their stock of original negatives, both S&S and Harrison Marks. They seem a good deal except that you cannot request particular models. I did try to request negatives of Joan Paul, but was told that in order for it to be worth their while to search for them, I would have to place a very large order....... Would have been rather hard to get that one past the family treasurer!!!

Does not help not being located in the UK either.

On a side topic, it has been interesting seeing just how many of these mags are showing up on ebayUK these days. The going rate seems to be around 5 pounds, but sometimes they are cheaper.

The Nicola, Marie and Eve tickling set is brilliant. Love the pics where the girls raise their skirts for the others to view. The girls were a great trio and seemed to work so well together. And very easy on the eye. Nick

Imagine these two in the warm shower wearing this lot! That would be soaking wet dresses, petticoats, panties, stockings, suspender belts and shoes and bras.
Imagine the sheen on the wet stockings. And those panties would go completely transparent. If any wives read this, please oblige your husbands!
Meanwhile the very lovely Rosalind Stuart obliges by happily taking a warm bath in stockings, suspender belt, panties, wet skirt pulled up, bra and blouse. Isn't she astonishingly gorgeous and with a great sense of humour too. On these occasions one can only wish that more pictures had been taken. Before and after photos would be good.

They must have had their own darkroom to produce the prints they sold. Most unusual because generally the photographer devved all the film and sent the publication a contact sheet from which the publication selected the images for publishing. The photographer would then supply the full-size prints. This did not seem to be the case with Spick and Span. Wonder if Ken Howard and co devved the film and sent the negs off to Croydon or if they just sent in the film and Toco Publications devved it. Whichever, it would appear they didn't get to keep what they took, which would be amazing. Love to know, but then again don't suppose there's much chance of ever finding out.

The way I see it, some of the photographers (like Ken H and Scotllee Studios) were almost 'staff' and did what you say and worked to order, with Toco directing the sort of pics they wanted, as Ken told me. Others would send stuff in on spec and Toco would buy the prints they liked to use in the mags but would not hold the negatives. I know this because many years ago I managed to get hold of one of these photographers and got some prints from him. He very definately still had the negs.

As you can see by looking at the mags, sets were only available for some of the girl, not all of them and that's why.

Always felt that Nicola and Marie were more than just two models on assignments together. Looking at this photo, I'd say they were close friends. Perhaps Nicola introduced Marie into modelling. Nick

I suspect that this is an early Nicola pic and the name on the storyline (Maggie Foster) might even be Nicola's real name. We will probably never know the truth. Nick
