Adalbert Gyrowetz(born with the name Voltech Matyas Jirovec) was a lesser known Bohemian composer during the Classical and early Romance periods. He moved early in his career to Vienna where he met Mozart who liked him because he was starting to compose many symphonies. Mozart even performed one of Gyrowetz's symphonies in 1785. Later Gyrowetz went to England where he met Joseph Haydn whom he idolized. In 1804 Gyrowetz went back to Vienna where he was appointed Vice-kapellmeister of the Court Theater. Gyrowetz mainly composed instrumental music: 60 symphonies, 60 string quartets, 40 piano sonatas with violin and cello accompaniment, and much miscellaneous instrumental music, but he also composed almost 30 operas. My disc has just three of his symphonies.
