Kenya, Eritrea, and Ethiopia all say that you are wrong. All have Christian pluarities or majorities and have Christians who practice the ritual.

Islamic scripture doesn't specifically enjoin men or families who have been shamed by a woman to throw acid in her face nor does it enjoin them to kill her for bringing shame on them but there are so many inhumane and degrading injunctions against women in the Koran and the Ahadith, so much insisting on their status as mere cattle, their shameful bodies and their evil nature that shame-killings and acid attacks are entirely consistent with the spirit of Islam if not the literal letter of the scripture.

Honour killings were practiced everywhere from the Romans to China to the Western hemisphere back in those times taking out the wife and kids was perfectly acceptable. You gotta remember in these "politically correct" times you just can't do what you want...

That's not a coincidence. The Ottomans were even less original than the Arabs. They were highly influenced by Byzantine culture, its political system and architecture. Of course, they was never recognized as such because they were Muslims and the Ottoman Empire a Muslim state. Nevertheless, it was unusually tolerant toward Christians and Jews. The Greek enjoyed a privileged status. After the expulsion of Jews and Muslims from Spain, a huge number of Sephardic Jews were accepted in the Ottoman Empire and setled in places like Bosnia, Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey. But tolerant doesn't mean the Ottoman Empire was a paradise for Christians because it wasn't. Catholics didn't have it easy as they were viewed with suspicion because the Ottoman were at war with a Catholic power, the Habsburg Empire.

You can say this about religion in general. You won't believe what people will do to win favor with their higher power. Giving money to your house of worship, foregoing sex, abstaining from vices all to gain favor. Right now you got Catholics in Lenten season that is going to mid April this year, then a month later Ramadan starts. All the things people do for their power it is no wonder people will not try to find a way to make that situation benefit them...
