If I was a player, I wouldn't want to go on that field...
And if I was the head coach for either team, neither would I. I can't imagine that a coach who didn't play any starters in the exhibition games before the season started would want to see his players get hurt.
Will the NFL move the Chiefs vs. Rams game because of field conditions at Estadio Azteca? Quote:

It was said in jest but if they win the four divisional games anything is possible. The Skins have lost all five off line starters, the Eagles and the Cowboys are hit and miss, all have tough road games as well.
I would not be surprised if the Browns start winning road games. The way this season has gone who knows. |

Do you have any idea of what happens in the Oakland Coliseum when it rains? |

Carolina needs to get their act together to save their season. If they can't beat the Lions they don't deserve to play in January. The same goes for the Ravens who are hosting the Bengals. The other five games matter to the team's fan bases and fans of offensive proficiency will enjoy the Saints hosting the Eagles. Many games have playoff implications, but only in the sense that teams will get playoff berths. surviving to the conference finals is another matter. |

The league could give refunds, then sue/not pay those responsible in Mexico for the awful field conditions - surely the league's lawyers could start earning their salaries by coming up with something. Otherwise, they might have a 'work stoppage' by the players/coaches on both teams because of unsafe working conditions. That would give the league (and not the two teams) a real black eye. What if the game is played, and players get hurt? Is the league going to have to pay out the salaries and compensate the team and players involved for that?

Teams don't get compensated*** for injuries to players, teams pay for ALL the medical costs for players, unless a player decides they want the opinion of someone who isn't on the teams training staff or team doctor, then the player and/or their insurance pays for that. An injured player gets paid for as long as he is unable to play, no matter what his contract says. there are stipulations as to how much you get paid depending on where you were drafted and how long you have been in the league. However, none of this applies if it was a non-football related injury, like say a player went out to da club and wuz makin it rain and got shot in the leg. They get placed on the reserve/non injury football list and it is up to the individual team to decided whether or not to pay them. The NFL as a whole and the teams involved aren't going to lose any money if the game is moved, hell given the situation with the wildfires in California, they might have to move the game to Arizona. Because there will be between 10-30,000 fewer fans in attendance, the rams being the designated home team for the game will not make as much money off tickets and concessions and such, that's if they even have a piece of the concession sales. Income streams for pro sports franchises can be pretty convoluted and depending on how savy your owner is, you can either make a bazillion dollars through concessions/luxury suites/parking*/personal seat licenses**/advertising in and around stadiums and arenas or you can make nothing. Well, not nothing, you're gonna get at least a little money from tv and radio deals. *Some teams are charging $100 to park in the stadium/arena parking lot. That's per game. For three or four hours. Think about that. **These are a license which can cost up to $9,000 which "guarantees" the buyer the right to shell out another $9-120,000 for season tickets. yes, it's a ripoff. ***Teams can and do take out insurance policies against players contracts, but that's a whole level of complication that I don't know that much about and would take a REALLY long post to even start to sort out. That field must be really messed up. The NFL has moved the Chiefs - Rams game to L.A. Damn, I wish I had Ticketmaster and StubHub stock.

Good luck to all those people who already have tickets to get refunds or will their tickets automatically convert to guarantee seating in Los Angeles?
How about airline tickets and hotel reservations? Some of those are non refundable especially if you didn't buy full price airline tickets to start with. |

A question for the English NFL fans.
Over here on the other side of the pond, there has been a fair bit of talk about a team, most likely the Jacksonville Jaguars relocating to London. Currently they play a few games every year at Wembley Stadium, and the owner said recently he wants to increase that to four games a year. And NFL commissioner Roger Godell has made it clear that he would really like for a team in London. Which fine, I'm not making or losing money whatever he does with the team. but from what I've seen and read, the enthusiasm level, is how can I say that this, not what I would call great, certainly not jumping up and down and screaming YES YES YES!!! I've read that all of the London games have been sellouts but also that a large % of those tickets were either heavily discounted, like down to 5 Euros or freebies, and that a good % of the people in attendance are in fact Germans, who perhaps unsurprisingly given their history have a weird affection for American style football. Which is a fairly long winded way of asking, do you think having an NFL franchise located in London would be a good thing? Would it be able to thrive and grow or would the appeal fade away, especially if the team's performance was middling to fairly awful for an extended number of years> Thanks for your opinions and input. |
