go into the recovery system way i described above. all win8 machines have it installed by default. it will let you restore the machine to the same as it was when it left the factory. then you just need to log into your microsoft account and it should reinstall all your apps.

Sorry for late reply!
Have done what you wrote, even uninstalled and re-downloaded and re-installed VLC player again, but still no sound when using VLC. Have no idea what´s wrong. Have been in contact with both Microsofts- and VLC support and on other forums, trying to find a solution to this problem. Anyway, thank you all for your replies. Much appreciated . Best wishes dlnhank. |

PROBLEM solved for me...switched back to VLC 2.1.5
Was running Win 8.1 with the latest version of VLC, the 2.2 version, and having lots of problem...sound was intermittent.
Then deleted and reloaded the latest VLC 2.2 version several times and the LATEST download of VLC 2.2 was the worst. No picture just vertical lines/bars and smears. See above where Mr.In-be-tween posted a link to an earlier VLC version: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/releases/2.1.5.html OK so I tried it...deleted the newer 2.2 completely and switched to the older 2.1.5. GREAT...now works normally for me on my new Win8.1 machine The latest version of VLC seems to have caused my problems. Thanks ALL |

Vlc always leaves residues after uninstallation, after you uninstall it, go to the registry and erase everything that VLC leaves after uninstallation, then install it again

As I previously suggested reverting VLC to a different version, let me now suggest updating it again. I'd been having problems - better after reversion but not totally cured - where VLC just didn't seem to be able to work fast enough, the picture disintegrating if you sped up playback speed or even just jumped forward, sometimes disintegrating at normal speed as well if the file was very large. These problems, as well as some others, now seem to be cured with VLC 2.2.1 (Terry Pratchett) - it's been out a couple of weeks, but I'd resisted updating before given my previous experiences.
