16 countries forbid entry to Israeli citizens. Virtually all of them are Muslim.

Calls here in the U.K. for Mr Trump's state visit to be cancelled.

I say absolutely not. The way to deal with isolationists and barrier builders is to show them how you live without them. Happy for him to visit me and my Muslim next door neighbours on his trip.

Might even make him a cup of tea!

Lots of little tidbits from medium.com:

https://medium.com/@yonatanzunger/tr...1d5#.ki8tkvc0t

Quote:
The Guardian is reporting (heavily sourced) that the “mass resignations” of nearly all senior staff at the State Department on Thursday were not, in fact, resignations, but a purge ordered by the White House.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...foreign-policy

Quote:
On Inauguration Day, Trump apparently filed his candidacy for 2020. Beyond being unusual, this opens up the ability for him to start accepting “campaign contributions” right away.
Quote:
On Wednesday, Reuters reported (in great detail) how 19.5% of Rosneft, Russia’s state oil company, has been sold to parties unknown. This was done through a dizzying array of shell companies, so that the most that can be said with certainty now is that the money “paying” for it was originally loaned out to the shell layers by VTB (the government’s official bank), even though it’s highly unclear who, if anyone, would be paying that loan back; and the recipients have been traced as far as some Cayman Islands shell companies.

Why is this interesting? Because the much-maligned Steele Dossier (the one with the golden showers in it) included the statement that Putin had offered Trump 19% of Rosneft if he became president and removed sanctions. The reason this is so interesting is that the dossier said this in July, and the sale didn’t happen until early December.
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-ru...-idUSKBN1582OH

There is much more in the medium article (some of it supposition, some of it theory, most of it interesting and nearly all scary). Including this comment:

Quote:
There appears to be a very tight “inner circle,” containing at least Trump, Bannon, Miller, Priebus, Kushner, and possibly Flynn, which is making all of the decisions. Other departments and appointees have been deliberately hobbled, with key orders announced to them only after the fact, staff gutted, and so on. Yesterday’s reorganization of the National Security Council mirrors this: Bannon and Priebus now have permanent seats on the Principals’ Committee; the Director of National Intelligence and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff have both been demoted to only attending meetings where they are told that their expertise is relevant; the Secretary of Energy and the US representative to the UN were kicked off the committee altogether (in defiance of the authorizing statute, incidentally).
And this quote from Kellyanne Conway:

Quote:
It’s really time for [Trump] to put in his own security and intelligence community.

I didn't expect Trump's presidency to become so funny so soon. It's always enjoyable to see lefties spitting self-righteous bile and the BBC getting upset because half of their recently hired staff will probably be hit by the travel ban.

Good to know that you think a swing to totalitarianism is funny.

Edit to add:

What I find truly shocking is the number of people that have no concern over a man, Trump, that talks in admiring tones of the "peace" and "calm" imposed by regimes such as Assad and Muammar Gaddafi. Then is dismissive of the fact that the so called peace and calm under their regimes was accomplished through an iron fist of terror and the death and imprisonment of tens of thousands of their own people.

These are the same people who claim to love the Constitution so much, yet look the other way when less than a month into his presidency Trump begins undercutting the very tenants that document is built upon- namely ignoring the checks and balances of the three "separate and equal" arms of government by telling homeland security officials to ignore judicial orders and that orders from the executive branch take precedence (for the constitutionally challenged- they don't).

His top adviser and man who is writing the EOs, Bannon, has been quoted as saying how much he admired Hitler and the "order" and "control" which he imposed on Germany. Not only does he have the ear of the president, but he's been elevated into positions that give him nearly as much power as the president. Over the weekend even a number of conservative sites were pointing out that Bannon's position on the NSC and other roles that have been handed to him give him more power than Pence- the man who is supposed to assume power if anything happens to the President.

I've also read where house republicans are scheming to allow Trump free reign until he does something so egregious they can impeach him and plant Pence- the man they wanted all along- in the Oval Office. They better not wait too long, given the rate he is consolidating power.

I think it was Friday when it was suggested that Trump is going to revive a Bush era policy of empowering state and local law enforcement agencies to enforce immigration laws. Okay. It was a failed policy that didn't work and just cost money. The scary thing is- over the weekend two of Trumps talking heads, didn't say immigration policy- they said "White House Policy." Now that could be a slip on their part- either by misspeaking or saying what they actually meant, but given the bigger picture and Trumps admiration for dictators with their own personal police forces that could also be horrifying.

I wonder if this is what some thought were 'mass resignations' instead of what this says...

Full Text of Draft Dissent Channel Memo on Trump Refugee and Visa Order

Quote:
Numerous Foreign Service officers and other diplomats have drafted a dissent memo expressing opposition to President Donald Trump’s executive order banning refugees and immigrants from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen from entering the United States. ABC reported this morning on the draft, which is likely to be submitted today.
Here’s a copy of the actual draft. We are hearing that literally hundreds of foreign service officers are planning to be party to the dissent memo; it’s still unclear exactly how many. We have redacted all names and personally identifiable information from this document.
Quote:
The State Department’s Dissent Channel is a mechanism for employees to confidentially express policy disagreement, created in 1971 as a response to concerns within the Department over the government’s handling of the Vietnam War. Authors of a memo submitted through the Channel, which is open to all regular employees of the State Department and USAID, may not be subject to any penalty or disciplinary action in response. Once a memo is submitted, the Secretary of State’s Policy Planning Staff must acknowledge its receipt within two working days and will usually distribute it to the Secretary of State, the Deputy Secretary of State, the Under Secretary for Political Affairs, the Chairperson of the Open Forum, and, if the memo’s author is employed by USAID, by the head of that agency as well.

Come on Donald.

What would the media do without you??

Can't talk about Sudan, North Korea, Yemen, Nigeria, or even Turkey who are arresting people every minute of the day.
