Cows follow a strict vegan diet. Pigs, however, are omnivores just like us so it is quite possible.

I agree fella. It's also a Tax on the poorest on society as they are the ones who spend more playing the lottery. It's like Cigarettes & Alcohol, It's the poorest that pay the hefty taxes

You're not wrong. A few years back I asked my Mum how much she spent on the lottery, and it was a 'couple of quid' on the Wednesday draw and the same for Saturday. When I asked her how much she'd won in any given year the most she could think of was a £100 win plus a couple of £10 wins.

When I pointed out that if she'd stuck that 4 Quid a week in a bank, she'd have £208+interest at the end of a year - guaranteed. So that's what she did, and it really helped her come Christmas time to cover the extra costs.

I couldn't agree more. It's all very well for people to moan about smokers and binge drinkers putting a strain on the NHS, but if the government put all that tax revenue into medical care I'm sure it would cover the cost of their treatment. I found the following figures:

Tobacco tax receipts for 2011/12 = over £9.6 Billion.
Alcohol tax receipts for 2011/12 = over £10.0 Billion.

If every smoker and drinker quit today they would inevitably live longer. So as well as lost tax revenue there would be an even greater drain on the available pensions 'pot'.

I bet the government is secretly very happy that smokers and drinkers pay so much extra tax and don't live as long. They'd be screwed without them.

I wonder if anybody is capable of doing the maths for lower tax on tobacco. The higher the price, the greater the profit in smuggling and faking, therefore the more worthwhile the criminal enterprise. And what a stroke of genius to make all tobacco produts carry identical packaging. The fakers will be overjoyed as printing costs go down immediately, and I have the feeling that plain packaging might not make it easier to spot fakes.
I am just glad I will live long enough to see government legislation that actually benefits organised crime.
