But unless he can prove it, he could end up like The Daily Star when they reported truthfully on Jeffrey Archer. Best not to name names.
It's about time he got over it..
I lived in Australia when the touring sides were known as Pakis, Poms and The Windies, Jeez I had nightmares after being called a pom , but I turned my life around...

We are left with some interesting questions for the winter. The retirement of Alistair Cook raises a new puzzle and so does the character of the first winter assignment, a tour of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is a difficult place for seam bowling, and England will probably tour with all of her main spinners - Jack Leach and Dominic Bess as well as Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid. Unless there are fitness considerations, Joe Root should be practising his off breaks as well.

I read some comments that Stuart Broad should be rested for the Sri Lanka tour, presumably to have him in tip-top condition to bowl in the West Indies after Christmas. I disagree. Idle machinery rusts. Unless he needs an operation or something like that, he should tour.
  1. Keaton Jennings - only because Alistair Cook won't be going.
  2. Rory Burns of Surrey has done more than enough for more than long enough and should be picked.
  3. Moeen Ali at 3. He does bat three for his county and is a real batsman, plus if he can secure this spot it really benefits the time balance. Possibly he should not bowl as much if he bats so high up the order, but I remember Graham Gooch being a very useful fourth seamer/swing bowler who took good wickets at a respectable economy rate whenever extra bowling was needed, so its not unprecedented for a high order player to also bowl regularly.
  4. Joe Root is by far the most proven batsman and is also the captain. If he wants to bat at four, then make it so. He should definitely do a bit more bowling as well, particularly if England are bowling in the fourth innings.
  5. Ben Stokes.
  6. Jonny Bairstow
  7. Sam Curran
  8. Adil Rashid
  9. Stuart Broad
  10. Jack Leach
  11. Jimmy Anderson

Reserve opener - Mark Stoneman. He might not get a game even, if Jennings can come good and if Burns plays reasonably well, but he had a decent summer and he wasn't the only one to crap out in Australia last time.

Reserve spinner - Dominic Bess.

Reserve wicketkeeper and first choice spare batsman - Jos Buttler.

Also bring Chris Woakes and IMHO Mark Wood.

If there is room for a 17th squad member I would like it to be Oliver Pope, who I think has been punished for the failure of other batsmen. But we might only pick 16.
I've got to agree with.. Anderson
Don't Forget Oliver Stone. Warks
Will Rhodes. Warks
Dom Sibley. Warks
Ian Bell. Warks
Sam Hain . Warks
The Rest , I don't Care...

Thumbs down Australia post cheating sand paper gate

Overseas and as hopeless as ever

Scary stats show since 2016 they've had 7 batting collapses
- losing all 10 wickets for less than a 100 runs - 2 of those were in Australia.

1st Test, Australia tour of United Arab Emirates at Dubai, Oct 7-11 2018

Day 3: Pakistan lead by 325 runs with 7 wickets remaining

Paper can't have been the source of their team grit, can it?

Mods: I hope this link is okay?

Last night's Radio5Live BBC braodcast of 'Vaughny meets Warney' was excellent listening, as Shane Warne (who, coincidentally has a biog being published ) gave a fascinating insight into his career and life - highly recommended listening:

Australia has batted for 140 overs in the 4th innings of the First Test v Pakistan in Dubai, UAE to salvage a draw. Their longest 4th innings in Test cricket. Khawaja scoring 141, the highest score by an Australian in Asia in the 4th innings. Supported by Head 72 & Paine 61 not out, they finished on 362/8. Next Test starts in Abu Dhabi on 16 October. Pakistani opener Imam-ul-Haq is out of that Test with a fractured finger.

Not a lot written about England v Sri Lanka. But then not a lot of cricket has been played yet.

In fact this series appears to be the case of putting money before anything else. It's the monsoon season ffs. Will any match actually be completed in a totally satisfactory manner ?. Playing 20 odd overs from a possible 50 with total advantage to the side winning the toss is not IMO satisfactory.

We should play more rain affected games, especially after today's record defeat.

I always wondered why play cricket in the monsoon season, of course money.

The 'face saving' argument is that this stuffing - there are probably less polite words - is of little relevance.

A dead rubber. Not the first choice team. But it does matter. Players do get injured. Others must step up. Did not see much of that either from bowling, fielding or, mostly, batting today.

Lose even a couple of games in the WC and England will struggle to get to the final stages.

It was a brave call by Sri Lanka to bat given the possibility that rain would come at some stage. But they deserved this one.
