The world's end.
After shaun of the dead, and a good start,(how are you my friend 20 years after we were 20 and ready to rule the world), beware SPOILER SPOILER!!! it turns into a fantastic SF movie. I love pegg and frost but here they don't know how to write an adult scenario.I can explain more but my english is limited. |

The Mill Of The Stone Women.
Il mullino delle donne di pietra, Giorgio Ferroni, 1960. With Pierre Brice, Scilla Gabel, Wolfgang Preiss, Dany Carrel, Liana Orfei. European cast for a freaky Italian gothic horror production. I watched it last night. Well I didn't have nightmares then but it's a real atmospheric and bizarre little gem. I bought it for french actress Dany Carrel's right nipple, I had Scilla Gabel on more Joke apart, a movie for gothic collectors and fans of 60's. "A young artist named Hans is hired to do a study of a famous local landmark, a windmill that contains stone statues of notorious female monsters of the past. One day he meets a mysterious, dangerously beautiful woman at the mill. Before long, he is drawn into her clutches..". "Giorgio Feronni's gloriously colorful horror film "Mill of the Stone Woman" is obviously influenced by Georges Franju's horror classic "Eyes Without a Face" and Mario Bava's "I Vampiri". Admittedly the first half of the film is pretty slow and rather confusing, however there is enough eerie moments to satisfy fans of early 60's Italian Gothic horror. The location sets are truly atmospheric, for example the crumbling mill of the film's title is a decrepit place, filled haphazardly with ominous statuary and ancient religious icons. So if you are a fan of Italian horror you can't miss this gorgeously photographed gem". IMDB Trailer Extract Scilla Gabel on VEF. Dany Carrel on VEF

Byzantium, a recent vampire British made movie. The story is average but it has Gemma Arterton running around for most of it in stockings & suspenders with her incredible bosom swinging hither & thither. 10/10!

The Serpent (2006)
Watched this last night.....
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0486474/?ref_=nv_sr_5 This is a really well made French revenge thriller that is....though not completely original in plot.....it does seem new in essence.....mainly due to great acting, fast enough pace while allowing enough time to engage with all the characters.....even the bad guy......tight and seamless editing, never allowed to drag, some great cinematography.....and very tense at times..... Would recommend...... IMDB gives it a lowly 6.4........has to be a 7.8 from yours truly......

I watched a Japanese film called "Adrift in Tokyo"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1098226/ it's about a lonely college student who owes lots of money. A debt collector visits him and threatens him, telling the kid that he has a few days to come up with the money. When the collector finds the kid again, instead of demanding the money he offers to pay the kid 1million yen if he walks with him through Tokyo. The kid agrees, and they set off the next day without a destination. I absolutely love this movie.

Currently finally long overdue watching,
This. Mind better admit i`ve mainly been viewing it this last hour and a bit as it co-stars that very delightful looking girl from the brilliant Stepfather film. Oh ok it`s not just due to her. Also because the film is atmospheric , decently acted, tightly paced and nicely directed. Not bad at all

Incendies (2010)
aka "Die Frau die singt" and many other languages. Doesn't appear to have an English title, can't imagine why Canada / France - Drama / Mystery / War "A mother's last wishes send twins Jeanne and Simon on a journey to the Middle East in search of their tangled roots. Adapted from Wajdi Mouawad's acclaimed play, Incendies tells the powerful and moving tale of two young adults' voyage to the core of deep-rooted hatred, never-ending wars and enduring love" One of the best movies you'll ever see. Especially if you appreciate drama - serious drama, not playstage stuff (Btw, did you know Drama is the name of an ancient city in Greece? It's true. I've been there. It's in the mountains, not far from Turkey) IMDB gives it 8,1 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1255953/ |
