Avengers - Infinity War (2018)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4154756/ Opens with a great scene following on directly from Thor: Ragnarok with the ship containing the survivors of Asgard being attacked by Thanos and his intergalactic thugs. The latest Marvel spectacular sees the whole of the MCU ensemble including most of The Avengers, Dr Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy, the notable exceptions being Hawkeye and Ant-Man. It contains all the elements we would expect action, humour, a Stan Lee cameo lots of references to the long history of Marvel comics and Peter Dinklage as a giant as well as the brief re-appearance of a presumed long dead Marvel villain. The story is based on the classic Infinity Gauntlet tales as Thanos seeks out the six infinity stones to complete his gauntlet which will give him the power to destroy half of the people in the universe in the belief that less people will make resources last longer. The ending is not what you may expect but fits in nicely with the fact that there will be a second Infinity War movie. There is one end of credits scene that ties in with next year's Captain Marvel movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZfuNTqbHE8

Ready Player One is a pretty good movie! I saw it last week and I think that Steven Spielberg did a very good job in this one. In general I liked almost all of his movies and I think that this one did well on the Box office. It's a science fiction film which is based on the novel by the same name. It's plot is set in the year 2045 where there is an alernative world of virtual reality and it's founder has made a contest in which the players must find an Easter egg that requires three keys to open the gate which protects it. The movie has many characters from other films like Iron Giant, Child's play and the car from Back to the Future

Sunshine (2007)
Trailer The year is 2057 and MaxJoker is still super moderator on VEF. Everything seems alright except it isn't: our sun is dying and the Earth is experiencing its solar winter. In order to save life on Earth, some of its mammals decide to send a colossal nuclear bomb at the center of the Sun to "jump start" it. They already tried seven years earlier but the delivering spaceship Icarus and its crew disappeared without a trace, so the job was transferred to Icarus II and a crew of eight people. As they slingshot past Mercury, the Icarus II crew recieve a distress call from their predecessors. How's that even possible? Well, one of the crew members argues that Mercury's high iron content must have served as an antenna. The ship's "physicist", Robert Capa (Cilian Murphy), suggests they locate the first Icarus because two bombs are better than one. Kaneda (Hiroyuki Sanada), the ship's captain, agrees but soon wishes he didn't. Director Danny Boyle said he was influenced by 2001, Solaris and Alien. Really? Okay. Compared to the ultra-professional behavior of, say, David Bowman and Frank Poole who show no emotion at all, the Icarus II crew are a bunch of hysterical crybabies. You'd think astronauts go through years of hard training to deal with critical situations without losing their shit at the first sign of danger. But accuracy? Scientific accuracy? Even plausibility? I'll even lower my standards and accept mere speculation but not even this is enough to justify a dying Sun in the mid-21st century. It's going to last another five billion years before it goes out of hydrogen and bloats up as a red giant. Even fiction should show some respect to scientific reality, something Mr. Boyle thought he was doing obviously. Kind of pretentious to claim inspiration from probably THE most scientifically accurate science fiction film ever made. I've been sick this whole week. Caught the flu and hoped a good science fiction flick might help me feel better and forget my misery. It made the cough even worse and my fever might be back. Fuck this! |

Christine (1983)
Trailer In Detroit, 1957, a 1958 Plymouth Fury is assembled at a Chrysler plant and makes its first kill when a cigar-smoking worker dares to drop his ash on the passenger seat. 21 years later, the geeky teenager Arnie Cunningham (Keith Gordon) and his best friend, Dennis Guilder (John Stockwell), notice a red-and-white Plymouth for sale. The car is in bad shape but Arnie is fascinated and buys it right away from an old geezer who tells him that the car's name is Christine. He moves it to Will Darnell's (Robert Prosky) car repair shop and junkyard where Christine is restored with all of Arnie's care and love and she seems to love him back as she starts to behave like a jealous girlfriend. A decent adaptation of a silly Stephen King story with some good directing and nostalgic soundtrack. Keith Gordon does a good and convincing Geek-turned-Fonzie performance. He'd go on to direct a couple of quality films later like A Midnight Clear or Mother Night which are recommended. |

Had an urge to watch King Arthur. The story as it's never been believed before. Some top British names and Ray Winstone.

This one.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0349683/ A rare bad performance by Clive Owen so far. Good to see Ray Stevenson in it.

Avengers: Infinity War
ABSOLUTELY NO SPOILERS !!!!!! 10 years of movies and glances at the Titan Thanos and here we are. Thanos has arrived to lay waste to the universe and give it "balance' Who can possibly stop him? The Avengers,Black Panther and the Wakandians, and the Guardians of the Galaxy. This movie.....im exhausted.....but for the most part in a good way. The film gives Thanos a great foundation to work from.Thanos (Josh Brolin absolutely incredible in the role) well just like with Kilmonger in Black Panther hey i hear you big guy,i understand your point of view but you are going about it in the wrong way. He is definitely one of the best villains i have seen in the Marvel films. His scenes with his daughter (Zoe Saldana as Gamora) past and present added to the aforementioned foundation. Oh and his "children" The Black Order: Ebony Maw (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor truly the standout !!),Proxima Midnight (Carrie Coon),Corvus Glaive (Michael James Shaw),and Cull Obsidian (Terry Notary) are tough, haunting and tauntingly bad ass. Characters meeting for the first time and interacting were a joy to watch and listen to from Tony Stark/Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. and and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) Spider-Man (Tom Holland), and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) Star Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Buatista), Rocket Racoon (Bradley Cooper), Teen Groot (Terry Notary), and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and fan favorites Captain-America (Chris Evans) Vision (Paul Bettany) ,Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) (Chadwick Boseman),Letitia Wright as Shuri, Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo),Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow,Danai Gurira as Okoye and Spider-Man (Tom Holland) are given time to shine. I love battle scenes in which warring kingdoms throw everything they can at each other on the battlefield and it was awesome to see this done on such a grand scale in this movie. The film even fits in a little romance I know some writers,Directors, and studios are on the fence about taking chances with their audiences with certain endings or plot twists they think up but im glad Directors: Joe Russo, Anthony Russo and writers Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely decided to jump off the fence. My problems with the film, the CGI was off here and there, there is a bit of a tonal inbalance. The film was a bit bloated with far to much dwelling on certain plot threads. This is a movie with a lot of moving parts. For the most part it runs smoothly with some moving moments and thrilling ones, and probably one of the most talked about and numbing cliffhangers i have ever seen on the big screen Where do we go from here? Scale of 1-10 a 9 |
