Robert Vaughn`s silky sinister smooth voice makes this a classic for me.

Having visited one of its settings in Barbados some decades ago (too long ago in my opinion

), I went out of my way to see this movie. The first time I watched "Island in the Sun" it was mainly in disbelief at what I considered it's primitive approach to race and interracial liaisons.
But having seen it several times (thanks, TCM) and reseached this film on the internet, I understand why the movie tip-toed through the racial issue. When you consider Joan Fontaine got hate letters for "working with a n----r" (aka her character having a romantic relationship with Harry Belafonte), I understand why this film was so delicate with its subject, even though it was considered a landmark movie at the time.

One day, Colqhoun stumbles into their camp. The half-starved Scotsman had been traveling with a group of settlers until they were snowbound. Unable to move forward, they took refuge in a cave, where once they ran out of food, they were forced to resort to cannibalism. Colqhoun barely escaped the madness...or did he?

A masterpiece from beginning to end. Half-horror, Half-western, Half-ver dark comedy, Ravenous is one of its kind. The late Antonia Bird did a marvelous work directing the screenplay from writer Ted Griffin, the ensemble cast is incredible and the sound score, composed and conducted by Damon Albarn from Blur & Michael Nyman, is one of the weirdest, scariest and haunting you'l ever hear. I can't count how many times I've seen it since its initial release 18 years ago.
