Default What Man Would Not Want Badler Badly?

.

Gathering materials for another post landed me on this page of a French site compiling actresses who have appeared in westerns. They gathered some terrific photos for a good many actresses, but while scrolling down their page to get the reference for my post that I was working on at the time (if you must know, it was for Angel Tompkins from over a week ago), I came across a shot that made me stop. (The western credit being, by the way, Snowy River: The McGregor Saga, where our lady appeared in two 1995 episodes. The reason why some may not be familiar with the title is because it's an Australian TV series.) Here is the shot that hit the spot:

Why did this photo draw my attention, just one of a plethora of images from the French site featuring so many other mouth-waterers? Aside from this woman being physically striking, there was some kind of a force at play here. This lady was difficult to ignore. (She was projecting the equivalent of a cop's order to a chased crook: "Stop, or I'll shoot." Naturally, a more appropriate order in this case could be, "Stop, and you'll shoot.")

Art accenting her character's taste for mousies

Once I found out her name was Jane Badler, with the next step being a visit to her VEF thread, it didn't take long for me to realize she wasn't entirely new (in my experience). Her big claim to fame was the two-part 1983 TV mini-series 'V' (which was her sixth screen title, two being soap operas, after the actress began her screen career in 1978), where she played the "evil reptilian Visitor leader 'Diana'"; this was a show I watched at the time, and no doubt I also watched its three-part sequel V: The Final Battle (1984), and I may have watched at least some episodes of the TV series that followed in 1984–1985, lasting for only nineteen episodes.

She has fans positively gaga over her, as apparent from the text in the second image.

The two mini-series were giant hits, but the series itself did not catch on; one reason was provided by the actress, as may be read in her 1988 Starlog interview thoughtfully put up by Wendigo, in his Post #20 from 2014, where she felt once they skimped on the special effects, as was necessary given the now-limited budget, the show resembled a soap opera.

Jane sure has gotten the "arms akimbo"
move down to a science.

The photo above has been grabbed from an excerpt of 'V' on YouTube, with the description, "Charles proposes to Diana, but she would rather die first!" This photo gives the idea she changed her mind.

From the 21st century reboot, a behind-the-scenes
"green screen" view — illustrating the season two
premiere episode entitled "Red Rain." The finale from
the prior season had Anna (Morena Baccarin, pictured),
villainous leader of the V's (and daughter of Diana, i.e.
Jane, also seen above) unleash Red Sky on the planet,
promising to bring war and chaos all around.

A quarter-century later, 'V' was brought back (in 2009); it appears Jane's character of Diana had met her end, because the producers re-imagined her role, and Jane returned as the mother of the Visitors' new evil leader (Anna, played by Morena Baccarin), appearing in nine of the second season's ten episodes (from 2011), and there was no third season. (The beginning of Jane's acting reel has included a scene where Anna treats her mom a bit rudely.) Regarding her "rodent-gobbling lizard leader" character, as the Starlog article put it and further revealed, "I would love to do 'V' again." Once more, this article was from 1988, so she certainly got her wish.

These fine photos and a few others in this post came from a Facebook page called "Jane Badler fan creations," very dedicated to the lady.

Obviously she was an integral part of this enterprise, yet I barely remember anything about the show, nor its performers. (I can't say I've had the advantage of seeing her in much else, since once she got married in 1990 (to an Aussie feller she met while on location for Mission; Impossible in that continent), she located to Australia.

When Mission: Impossible was brought back
in 1988, lasting for thirty-five episodes, Jane
came on board in the next year's second
season, appearing in twenty-six episodes from
1989-1990. Above, with Peter Graves.

This is why web pages about Jane Badler describe her as an American-Australian, although she was born in Brooklyn, New Yawk. As with the western mentioned earlier, many of her projects are Australian, and given U.S. imperialism, foreign product has limited distribution in America. (In other words, one has to go out of one's way to become aware of many of her Aussie films and TV shows )

Now I am paying attention to Ms. Badler. The big reason for going ahead with this post has to do with how there was no nudity on the thread, and I wanted to remedy that. (Not that the probable only time she has shown the goods amounted to much. Oh, and I am adding this following line while putting in the post's finishing touches: another going-through of the thread revealed that the nudity coming up was presented a decade ago in a wordless Post #18 from Member "Disir"; the large view for one of his two images has since died.)

COVENANT

Her success in 'V' led to a supernatural TV movie in 1985 called Covenant, with José Ferrer. This was NBC-TV's hope to come up with their own successful prime-time soap, along the lines of Dallas and Dynasty, about some rich folks making a deal with the devil, but the series did not materialize. In the Starlog article, the one-time Miss America contestant revealed the choice she made was a bad career move. The inducement was the money, three times as much as what she was paid in 'V,' but the character (who could burn people with her eyes) was similar to Diana. The film did poorly, and Ms. Badler had a hard time finding work afterwards. (A shoddy copy of Covenant is on YouTube, and comments from those who remembered the original airing seemed giddy with delight.)

The Starlog article also revealed that she had appeared in dozens of commercials, and her favorite was for a wine spot where she got to vamp it up at age 23. (She threw a match in the fire, and said, "I call, but you don't return my calls.") I had to see if I could find the lady acting sexily, but I only found two of her commercials on YouTube, this one for a pregnancy detecting product (see above), and another for a brassiere company:

This ad aired in late 1981; blonde in last image is actress Ellen Maxted.

She sang in college, and at the time of the Starlog article, "she was trying to assemble her own club act... wrapped around the theme of love."

Jane Badler singing at "Le Reservoir" in
Paris, on June 10, 2014.

She made this other dream of hers into a reality (debut album, "The Devil Has My Double," was released in 2008; second album, "Tears Again," in 2011), and below are grabs from two of her music videos, Four Corners To My Bed ("the first single taken from... Tears Again" from here), and Can't Get You Out Of My Head, which is Jane's take on "Minogue's 2001 international Top 40 pop hit." (Put up in 2015, and to be found here.)

...
First two photos: "Four Corners To My Bed." Last: "Can't Get You Out Of My Head"

These videos come from the actress' own YouTube channel, where she has (interestingly) described herself as an "Australian/New York-based actress and international chanteuse," where her "Australian" identity is implied to have superseded her "American" one. Ms. Badler has a website with many other songs, and notes on her acting career: janebadler.com (which a quote from this image claims had begun in 2016).

Page two of the Starlog article informed that Jane had done three plays in a row, before her first screen appearance in the soap, One Life to Live. One of these stage productions was probably Picnic, from 1977 (second photo).

....

From the Starlog article: "Her first taste of 'V' fandom came at a recent New York convention. She was pleasantly stunned. 'I had the best time,' she grins. 'When I walked in the room, everyone cheered. Never in my life had I gotten that response. Fans asked questions, and I never wanted to stop talking.'" Looks like the thrill of fan worship has stuck with her; the first two images above relate to a 2016 convention in Argentina. ("Alice Badler," who wrote the instructions, is Jane's little sister, seen in the last shot; they look similar, and Jane is at left.)

The 2014 short film entitled Bitch, Popcorn & Blood is one where Jane had the role of "La Femme Fatale." She plays the prototypical 1940s "bad-to-the-bones bitch" who (in the case of this story) "goads nice girl Lily to lash out at all the people pissing her off," as this article put it, also revealing that Jane had won the 2017 Tabloid Witch Awards for Best Actress. Made in France (although in English), the production was "very loosely inspired by the Grindhouse universe of director Quentin Tarantino," as worded here. (In other words, it would appear popcorn seller Lily goes nuts, and much red liquid is spilled. Online.)

...

First image above is from one of Jane's later cinematic efforts, Cult Girls (2019), described by a YouTube commenter as "a dark film in which young maidens are indoctrinated into thinking their ultimate role in life is to be sacrificed to their pagan gods," but there is one who begins to think differently. The Australian horror film is reported to have been generous with the nudity. Next shot is from another movie (also from Australia) that is practically hot off the press (from 2022), an "old school" horror film entitled Surrogate. (Jane plays a child services agent who investigates an inexplicable pregnancy.)

...

Jane with her 'V' co-star Marc Singer. In the first photo above, the actors attended the 58th Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 22, 1984 in New York City. In the next, they were at the First Annual Stuntman Awards on February 2, 1985 at KTLA Studios in Los Angeles, California. (Photos by Ron Galella.) The third image depicts Jane Badler appearing on the El Hormiguero TV Show in Madrid, Spain, on January 27, 2011. The three photos below are from the same program.

The Spaniards in the first photo look so intimidated by the American (let's pretend she's an American), they may
have had visions of getting their butts kicked in another Spanish-American war. And don't disregard the middle
shot; when you see what passes for Badler nudity, coming up, you'll see that cleavage view is almost as bare.

Self Assignment is a magazine that Jane posed for on June 13, 2012, in Paris. Jane pouts it up in the first photo below, as she attended the premiere of Girl Gets Girl (A.K.A. De Chica en Chica) in Madrid, on Sept. 24, 2015. The Spanish film (originally a web series) is a comedy about lesbians, and Jane played the ex-business associate and lover of the protagonist, who had borrowed money from Jane. Jane has a gun. (They don't know who they're messing with. A trailer, where the second photo came from.)

Let's cap off with the "big finish," what is probably Jane's only nude scene. It was for a B-movie entitled Easy Kill, with Frank Stallone as the hero, and Cameron Mitchell was also in the cast as the "name." How heartbreaking that if this beautiful woman toyed with the idea of making the "nudity concession" (even though what resulted was not much of a concession), and after having established star power as she did at this stage of her career, a film as this was her choice.

Second image: 1990 trade movie promo for the video stores

Frank plays an ex-cop and bartender who is smitten by a beautiful woman who walks into the bar, and leads him to believe that her husband, a diplomat and (as she says) cocaine smuggler is trying to kill her. The story relies on that "Double Indemnity" element where Frank is led into the trap of wishing to help her.

There is this scene of Jane cutting her wrist, to extract sympathy from Frank. He pulls her out of the pool, but blocks the view of her exposed skin with his body, and then quickly covers her up.

At least there is a little bit of exposure, pitiful as it may be.

This was nice.

There you have it. A quick second's worth of the "money shot."

As described above for her award-winning performance in a short film, Ms. Badler may be Bad to the Bone, but not to the Boner.
