It's all about the cost, innit? You need to cut costs down, so Quality Assurance goes down in the sewer. So much for the the QA the MBAs in the snazzy suits did in the university eh?
If you check the VOSA list for vehicle recalls in the UK over the past five years, you'll find quite a few!

Some examples ...
ASTON MARTIN DB7 ZAGATO COUPE: rear brake pressure reducing valves connected incorrectly
LAND ROVER FREELANDER: incorrect nut installed into rear subframe
BENTLEY ARNAGE: fuel pump outlet hose may fracture
BMW X5: bearings of the fuel injection pump may fail
FORD GT: track control arms may fracture
MERCEDES CL 209: side airbags may deploy inadvertently
MERCEDES 220: a hydraulic line in the braking system may leak
VOLVO S40 AND V50: windscreen may separate from support areas on impact
PORSCHE 911 CARRERA CABRIOLET: the locking mechanism for convertible top may fail
FORD FIESTA, FOCUS C-MAX AND FOCUS: fuel return pipe leak
AUDI TT & A3 (with direct shift 6 speed gearbox): clutch may operate inadvertently with unexpected loss of drive.

In the past five years, there have been Two thousand, three hundred and sixty four recall notices in the UK!

In the past 12 months, there have been 465 including a number of fairly serious ones such as potential brake failure, risk of fire, airbags not deploying, potential steering failure etc.

I guess it must be a slow news week if a Toyota recall makes the headlines!

Quite possibly, but I would say that belief in the notion that world leaders are said lizards puts one well out of expecting to be taken seriously by anyone with a modicum of sense.

Some easy fixes here, no need for recalls:

ASTON MARTIN DB7 ZAGATO COUPE: rear brake pressure reducing valves connected incorrectly.
This system is far too complicated. Get rid of the rear brakes.
Who owns the company now?

LAND ROVER FREELANDER: incorrect nut installed into rear subframe.
I'm not fixing anything with a stupid name like that. Anyway this is impossible. Nuts cannot be removed from their Land Rovers.

BENTLEY ARNAGE: fuel pump outlet hose may fracture.
No need for a fuel pump. Use gravity feed, as per the Trabant.

BMW X5: bearings of the fuel injection pump may fail.
Germans and their fuel injection.

FORD GT: track control arms may fracture.
Why do you have to control the track?

MERCEDES CL 209: side airbags may deploy inadvertently.
Airbags. When will people learn?

MERCEDES 220: a hydraulic line in the braking system may leak.
Go back to mechanical brakes.

VOLVO S40 AND V50: windscreen may separate from support areas on impact.
I am not touching a Volvo. Serves you right. Anyway, I thought Volvos were supposed to be safe?

PORSCHE 911 CARRERA CABRIOLET: the locking mechanism for convertible top may fail.
Look on the bright side, at least you will have a proper sports car now.

FORD FIESTA, FOCUS C-MAX AND FOCUS: fuel return pipe leak.
Fuel should only go one way. It doesn't need to return.

AUDI TT & A3 (with direct shift 6 speed gearbox): clutch may operate inadvertently with unexpected loss of drive.
You do need a clutch, not those 6 speeds though. Providing the A4 is OK I'm not worried about this.

Well the fairies at the bottom of my garden are absolutely adamant about the shape changing lizards although they do find the notion of "god" a bit far-fetched

Fairies eh? Wasn't Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle(author and creator of Sherlock Holmes) duped along with the rest of the world by the infamous Cottleston(Cottesloe) Fairies incident where two children used cut outs of fairies and pretended they actually existed? Probably one of the greatest hoaxes of the twentieth century-mind you the best ever April Fool joke is still the 'spaghetti tree'-search Google for more info.

It was Cottingley, between Shipley and Bingley in West Yorkshire. They were so obviously cardboard cut-outs, that it is extremely surprising that Conan-Doyle was taken in by it. A sympathetic explanation might be that towards the end of the titanic loss of life that was the First World War, people were in need of some 'magic' and sentimentality.

I was almost right with the above
Today we mourn the loss of Walter Frederick Morrison who created the Frisbee and the company WHAM-O. If you had one of these as a kid you will know what a fabulous toy it was.

Good luck to all the teams in the Six Nations tomorrow & Sunday and the FA CUP fifth round teams on Saturday.

Anyone seen Steven Gerrard's waxwork made by Madame Toussauds? Its an uncanny likeness and apparently was made due to overwhelming demand from visitors-cost £150,000. No Liverpool jibes please.

Last word on the JT affair? Probably not, but it made me chuckle...

You were indeed. I only corrected you 'cos it's near where I'm from. As for the Frisbee being for kids....I'll have you know I still use ours in the park occasionally. Wasted on kids.

Default Things Noticeable this week

An Ethiopian terrorist who was caught, in Pakistan, boarding a plane with a false passport was subsequently tortured in an undisclosed country at the behest of the Americans.
Other than this creature being on the trail of compensation, what on earth has this got to do with Britain?
MI5's knowledge of his torture is, surely a minor matter and he should firstly be seeking redress in the USA (fat chance).
We seem to be taking our eye off the ball, this man was a terrorist. His excuse that he went to Afganistan to cure himself of drug addiction is childishly stupid. Drug addicts, in Afganistan are stoned to death.
