The Sun will no longer be putting topless pics on page 3, although the current models will still be posted topless daily on page3.com, and will continue to feature as 'ambassadors' for the paper.

It is a sad day indeed...

Yes, it looks as if Lissy on Friday might have been the last P3 girl to appear in the Sun

It was being discussed on BBC Breakfast news this morning- and the P3 'slot' seems to be being used this week for the usual pics of some celeb in a bikini (today it's actresses Gemma Merna and Jennifer Metcalfe apparently) ...Oddly, although it's being widely reported on TV news and other papers, there doesn't seem to have been any official announcement from the Sun itself beyond a cryptic statement that page 3 will stay 'in the same place it's always been, between page 2 and page 4'. Maybe they thought they could just stop and we wouldn't notice...

Some interesting comments on Twitter:

Piers Morgan: 'Actresses who strip off for magazines = artists. Models who strip off for the Sun = tarts #hypocrisy'

..and P3's Mellisa Clarke:

'There's a special place in hell for women who don't support other women'

It'll be interesting to see how the Star reacts...

It's also interesting that the Star hasn't been mentioned at all in this debate/discussion and the wider media today - it's purely all been concentrated on The Sun

Well its been signalled as the Suns page 3 has been run down for a year or so now, skipping days, cover ups etc. I can only hope that the attentions of the campaign won't fall on the resurgent page 3 team in the Star but I'm guessing it might.
We live in a duplicitous and anadine world where men can be routinely ridiculed in the world of ads and naked celebs can be admired yet p3 models are harangued for their acts of free will. Does this mean that all topless sunbathing will now be banned? How about breastfeeding in public, the female form now banished? Are we all to go into same sex relationships now? Will divorce, maintenance and child access laws be equalised for men?

There will be an argument against each of these but at the end of the day its just Murdoch on the retreat....

I'm big collector of P3, digital and paper up to the late 90's. loved everything about it.

But i won't miss it if it's gone because, for me, it's completely lost the plot. horrible dull photography, reliance on 3rd rate post-prod, characterless models, zero humour or charm. It's not all Savage and her kin's fault though, it's also a victim of the times - I think colour was the beginning of the end for a couple of reasons. But even so, in the last 4 or 5 years it's almost been an insult to it's history imo.

Sad it's now gone if it's true. But only because it ends my hope it might find a way to be good again. For me it was gone a long time ago.
