Good points. I knew I wasn't alone in noticing the decline in PM natural beauty over the last twenty years. But the magazine and online sites themselves need a tweaking as well. PB disserviced itself when it changed its set-up to be more like such rival magazines as Maxim. But probably the biggest threat to PB has been that it has lost its allure of taboo. Nowadays, there are just too many alternatives.

That wasn't my point. At the beginning of the thread I have stated that the " Playboy is dead" opinion is very valid. I agree with it. The question of the thread though is, " If you were in charge, what would you be doing to save the business?" It's just imaginative.

I just felt all of the " it's pointless" comments were bringing the tone down, so I just acknowledged that point of view and asked for people not to post it over and over again, and I did apologise for it too, Fleetwood. Maybe I'll create a " WOULD you save Playboy?" thread, too, so people can debate that side of things there.

Anyway, I hope I don't have to keep explaining myself on that, and we can just enjoy the fun of the thread now

Quite a few posters have asked for the 'girl next door look'

Wasn't 'The home of the girl next door' the strapline below the masthead on a lower spec mag like Gallery, Gent or Genesis, I forget which.

Now I am all for the girl next door, but where I live, poor housing, bad diet and social deprivation in addition to alcohol, glue sniffing and early sexual encounters has turned most into absolute boilers.

May I add also that 'readers wives' featuring some overweight store clerk from Folkstone or Dover does not do anything for me. If I have a desire to look at ordinary ladies, all I have to do is to go to my local bar.

And what about all this call for the 'lush bush' , how many women these days actually cultivate advanced nether region foliage? Surely every woman these days extends her beauty regime to 'selective deforrestation'. They must, or they wouldnt be able to wear those thong type things, it would be like dragging your dental floss through the pampas grass.

Where can I find truly stunning beautiful ladies prepared to both put their flimsies on .....and then take them off again..........and give me just an occassional peek at pink.......ok a bit more than occassional..........but as other posters have said, I dont need to see what the gynaecologist sees.

Well if we`re talking about saving what little dignity it has left as a once great influence ?, then i`d say a 22 in the back of it`s head would be the most humane thing to do. As their last highlight for me was the Sherilyn Fenn spread , been stumbling downhill fast since then what with it`s repetitive interchangeable models and soft focus layouts. Anyway who cares about saving PB ?.There are a hell of a lot more important things to SAVE nowadays, rather than that empty monument to an even emptier wizened man .

Like the Whale for instance !

It is sad, but some things eventually run their course and die. In this case I hope not.

I remember when it was fashionable to have one of the coveted keys to a Playboy Club.

People, trends, attitudes, lifestyles change over time.

Almost all men wore hats in the 40's.

Hef was alone for a few years in the non-sleazy realm of Men's magazines.

The whole lifestyle is now a thing of the past, the dinner jackets, backgammon, pipes, jackets, ties and martinis.

Actually we, in America are far more restrictive about sex now.

Woodstock could not happen today.

I spent many years out of this country and i can tell you that attitudes and laws are different elsewhere.

I thought that Playboy was going to usher in the ultimate sexual revolution.

Nude or topless beaches for one thing.

The USA is populated by a bunch of closet porn addicts. It's the huge industry that everyone pushes under the carpet.

Remember the outrage when J. Jackson exposed a boob with a pasty on it? C'mon folks in Japan you regularly see boobies on TV. In Germany I watched Heidi Klum walk (with full frontal nudity) into a house in a commercial she was in.

The beaches where girls of all ages are either naked or topless are having pictures taken by family members and no one is accusing them of having child porn.

The USA is so fucking ridiculous in these times that any depiction of any person under the age of 18 is pornography.

Here is a graphic example of how laws and attitudes differ between times and countries.

In 1992 when I was in Japan, I went to a department store to look around. It's a typical Macy's type all purpose store. I wound up in the book department. They had several thousand books in this area.

As I am walking around there are many displays where the books are on a table. I picked up a book about large sailing ships. I put that book down and right next to it was a book with a picture of a young Japanese girl with a flower in her hair.

I picked that book up and thumbed through it. I am assuming it was a book with some kind of poetry or sayings. The pictures in the book were beautiful landscapes, flowing wheat fields, flowers and this 11 or 12 year old completely naked walking , sitting, lying, bending over, kneeling etc. throughout the book. And guess what no one in the store was freaking out.

In Europe I saw on several occasions young girls standing naked in the middle of a crowed sidewalk where the boyfriend was taking pictures a few feet away and guess what no one was freaking out.

Television shows, commercials even some billboards display what would be illegal in the USA. TV is not censored like it is here. You hear cuss words and see boobies in the movies.

The relaxed and refreshing attitude about sex over there is quite nice.

These countries do not have the problems we have in the USA with sex crimes.

When you make almost everything involved with sex a Taboo and also illegal, then the a whole segment of society has no outlet for sexual relief.

The degenerates that can get their fix so to speak in Europe can't do that in the USA so they wind up committing crimes against children.

Things change, the USA's intolerance for most things sexual and in many instances so many other things is the reason an Empire like Playboy is on the verge.

People, men, are not sitting at home waiting for the next issue anymore. There are too many other forms of adult entertainment.

I used to buy Playboys regularly in the late 60's, throughout the 70's and early 80' and some scattered issues in the early 90's.

I can remember buying Playboys in Airports between flights when new issues came out.

I have not bought an issue in more then 15 years.

The women are beautiful but, the mag, is just not as an important fixture in my life as it used to be.

I'd just like to point out that the ladies of Dover and Folkestone have great class and style ... Primark speak very highly of their behaviour and tastes, they form very orderly queues outside the tattoists, and they never leave more than 4 of their kids waiting outside the pub for them at any given time

Your first and last sentences seem to be at odds against each other. If the magazine is no longer an important fixture in your life, why would you care if it survives or not. Or are you simply being nostalgic?

Regarding your critical nature about my country's attitudes, if you're implying that European mores/standards are superior to those in the mainstream in the USA that is your opinion. To claim those attitudes elsewhere somehow make those folks an "enlightened" society is just another in a long line of ultra-lefty views from progressives who think they are always right. Whether European/Oriental society is free of sex crimes against minors is due to a relaxed attitude is debateable. Whether they are free of prosecutable sex crimes as you claim is also questionable. Or maybe they just sweep them under the carpet.
