@horndog2008 - welcome to the colorizing thread. And it also appears that I should be welcoming you to VEF. Hope you enjoy your stay. Now to the ladies. I used your color image as a source for some colors but, as with many such colors taken from photos, they needed to step back the saturation some to keep them from looking too bright. I'm intrigued with the background here. The foreground show the same brick/stone works but the background changes from a valley to a hill. I'm reminded of a construction on the coast range in California overlooking the central valley.

But, getting to your photos themselves, I had a lot of difficulty constructing a suitable color for the hair, a reddish brown for chestnut I believe. In a computer, there is really no brown, what's used is something between a red and an orange. When placed on a dark tint, they look brownish. But unfortunately, when the hair density on the b/w changes from dark to light the true color shows through. Note the differences in color between the side hair and the crown on the first photo. So how do you add red to a color that starts with red already in it? That's hard, and what I did doesn't really satisfy me, but it seems to be all I can do with these photos. The last b/w next to the color is identical to the first so I ignored it. If you want any changes, please let me know.

Also, if you make a post and forget something (like the pictures) you can go back to the same post and use the EDIT button (on the bottom right) to bring it back, then you can add or change whatever you want. And I think sometimes after getting back into the edit you need to used the ADVANCED button to get to posting images.

Thank you demsal8. You do amazing work, and so quickly. Actually, the photos were taken in Spain, but the landscape is very similar to California so good eye. I'm very happy with your work, but I think her hair could have been browner, and her tan deeper. Also, I wish I could have sent you bigger pics to reduce the grain. What is the maximum size allowed? And may I send you a few more of her?

@horndog2008 - you're quite right about the hair, but like I said it seemed the best I could do under the circumstances. As for the tan, I selected a medium tan. Please note that skin is normally orange, not pink as many people assume. But I use anything between reddish and orange depending on what I think is appropriate. To make a deeper tan you need more orange, but at some point it just starts looking too bright so there is a limit there also. Part of the problem was the hair was orangish, the wall was orange and yellow orange, the landscape was yellow orange, and her skin was orange. I was trying as much as possible to work a different color in there so cut back on the tan.

Speed? Nope, wasn't that terrific. In fact yesterday was Superbowl Sunday in this corner of the world, the biggest sporting event of the year. I've tended to ignore sports recently but decided to do an event for this one. Spent over six hours with that stuff so your work was delayed over what I would normally have done. I normally figure 2 to 3 hours working on any image for an average. Yours was high for the first and much lower for the second. If there's a lot of work in the pipeline response will be slower but right now, you seem to be my only requester so response will be faster. Just keep in mind that I have four other projects in the works and all are competing for my time.

Maximum size? That depends on which host you use. There's really a very large limit as far as pixels goes, but jpg compression to get them down to storeable size can really make a mess of the details. I usually store everything at 4 compression on jpg to keep as much resolution as possible but most people seem to use much higher to get smaller storage. I think Pimp and Host limits images to around 3Mbytes while others may go larger so consider that when you upload.

More of her (or anyone else)? Sure, knock yourself out. I'm always open for business. Just remember the rules: Only three images per post and wait until one request is done before submitting another. These rules were put in place to keep one person from monopolizing the process, and allow everyone to get into the rat race within a limited time.

@ManuLeMalin - welcome back, it's been a while since you made a request here. Three ladies from French underwear advertisements? Seems like that was your last request too. I believe I remember reading something that said that the first porn available to the masses was the underwear section of the mail order catalog. It seems they were the predecessors of the art publications and later Pl@yb0y and P3nth0se.

I had a friend a while ago who told me his father used to be a photographer who took a lot of photos for the underwear ads. He was totally surprised one day when his dad pulled out a stack of pictures of totally naked women. He was told that they always photographed the women naked, then the garments, and photographically placed the garments on the women. It saved soiling the underwear and also saved the time for them to change from one item to another.

But this lady is a real beauty with no jewelry or makeup. And those gorgeous blue eyes (do you know who she is?). I wasn't even sure if she was wearing lipstick but placed a light red there which could either be bare lips or a light color added. Extra large (VERY large) images take extra time just because there's a lot of area to cover. On the last, working her hair over the green background took around two hours.

I tried on all three to pick a complementary background but still changed it between pictures. I hope these meet your approval.

@johnmcwhatsit - beautiful picture. Well composed and lit. This is the peak of the photographic profession. Your photo is next. It may be done today but probably will wait until after I catch up on some sleep and be posted tomorrow.

@johnmcwhatsit - actually much easier to color than I expected. Not much to it. After coloring the girl, there was a real decision of what other colors to use on the walls and sheet, or even whether to use any colors at all. Looked fairly decent with everything else white. But I decided to use a subtle green on the walls and a light blue on the sheets. However, after finishing, I wasn't sure what you would prefer. Since I always store the girl only colored, I decided to post both and let you decide. Take one or both, same price.

@MountZuma - you want me to do WHAT? Have you looked at those pictures? I see two different plaid walls and a checkerboard flooring. Not exactly easy stuff to color especially giving the overlapping colors on the plaid. But okay, I'll do it. But it won't be either easy or quick. And by the way, welcome to colorizing.

Brilliant work Demsel, just cant believe the effort you ve been putting in, where do you get the time ?
Just thinking of the results you d get if you put all that energy
into doing fakes !!
Theyve been doing coloroized photos since the Victorian days and I think the results are often better than the real colour photos.
Stars like Doris Day and Marilyn go back to the black and white era, there must be a ton of pics of them to colourize
and of course.. Jayne Mansfield !

@MountZuma - whew!!! Finally done. I plea guilty to trying to avoid these problems. Took most of Wednesday off and did other stuff. Finally put my head down, took the reins in my teeth and just kept going until they were done. I started with the first but when I finished coloring the girl decided I needed to do the walls on the second before I knew how to finish the first. So I'm telling you, coloring a bunch of lines over and over then filling in little squares for several hours can really ruin a guys disposition. But they're done and available for you below. If you want any changes, try to find someone else to bother, at least with these two pictures.

However I was stagnating with not much to do except play computer games until I discovered VEF and immediately found the colorizing tread. Since I had done some coloring for myself and my family for years, I decided to join the fun here and haven't been sorry at all. this is very enjoyable. For your information, I have done one celebrity fake in my life, it is of Barbara Eden and is in the Vintage Celebrity Fake thread with this link to the post:

I started with a b/w original studio release for a film called "The Many Faces of Dr. Lao" released in the 50's, did a little manipulation, and colored the results long before I heard of VEF. Yes, as you say Doris Day and Marilyn Monroe do go back to the b/w era of films. But what about a lady whose career was primarily only in b/w films, would you consider that there are lots of images to color for Mae West? Would you be interested that one was done in this thread back when it first started? Check out this post for the results:

I'm presuming that you want me to color your picture of Jayne. I'd guess it will take about two or three hours and your request is next on my list. But don't hold your breath because I'm planning on getting some sleep before I start it, it's about 3am here right now. Should be done sometime tomorrow.
@tomesing - of course I could do a few pictures for you/you. What's with the 'us', you got her locked in your basement? Or maybe you have that tired old mouse in your pocket. I'll start your pictures as soon as I finish the one for Mr. stardust2003. Maybe done tomorrow, maybe the next day. I'm figuring on going to a movie/film tomorrow afternoon so your stuff may be delayed a short while by that.

@tomesing - you're up to the plate. Kate's pictures will be my next project. Please be aware that the sheer massive size of the images will add to the time necessary. I thought at first that I was going to have a problem with the pin-stripes on the shirt but noticed on the color image that they seem to be very lightly tinted. Of more concern is the fact that the box color seems to be reflecting off the shirt and I'll have to find some way to simulate that. And there's rouge on her cheeks which I normally bypass. Then tracing the strands of her hair for coloring is going to add significantly to the work required. Her beaded belt will also cause a slight delay. All of these items means that final delivery of the finished photos will probably be delayed until tomorrow.
