"With Burr Macintosh, Bangs was an actor turned photographer who brought a sense of psychological drama and narrative focus to his portraiture and stage photography. His portraits were among the first to look dramatic yet unposed, and so he was one of the pioneers of the modern style of pictorial portrayal. His portraits, often in large formats, are well composed and artificially lighted. He had a particular attraction to profile heads, often against dark backgrounds. His work was the model for much early Hollywood portraiture. He was one of the first if not first of the Broadway photographers to be sent to the West Coast in 1920."

"Lansing Brown also made a good living outside of the studios, although the death of singer Russ Columbo from a shot fired from an antique pistol at Brown's house curtailed somewhat his activities within the tight-knit world of Hollywood. Details of the shooting were never fully described but Brown was exonerated."

"Brown is often recalled for a tragic event on September 2, 1934. Brown accidentally shot and killed his friend, crooner Russ Columbo, when an antique pistol discharged and the bullet ricocheted into Columbo's skull.
After Columbo's death, Brown was cleared of all charges, but he remained deeply affected by the incident.
Brown served in the military during World War II as a photography instructor. He died of a stroke at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Hospital"

To pay off the debts from a crippling divorce, Curtis worked as a cameraman and still photographer for Cecil B. de Mille on The Ten Commandments (1923) and other films. After five years, Curtis left Hollywood in 1927 to resume his earlier work. William Mortensen, who went on to write many important books about photography, also worked for De Mille most shooting artistic stills and portraits for King of Kings (1927).”

“Around 1922 Curtis moved to Los Angeles with his daughter Beth, and opened a new photo studio. To earn money he worked as an assistant cameraman for Cecil B. DeMille and was an uncredited assistant cameraman in the 1923 filming of The Ten Commandments. On October 16, 1924 Curtis sold the rights to his ethnographic motion picture In the Land of the Head-Hunters to the American Museum of Natural History. He was paid $1,500 for the master print and the original camera negative. It had cost him over $20,000 to film...
…On October 19, 1952, at the age of 84, Curtis died of a heart attack in Whittier, California in the home of his daughter, Beth. He was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills, California. His terse obituary appeared in The New York Times on October 20, 1952:
“Edward S. Curtis, internationally known authority on the history of the North American Indian, died today at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Bess Magnuson. His age was 84. Mr. Curtis devoted his life to compiling Indian history. His research was done under the patronage of the late financier, J. Pierpont Morgan. The foreward [sic] for the monumental set of Curtis books was written by President Theodore Roosevelt. Mr. Curtis was also widely known as a photographer.”
