In the BBC's defence I think they are actively trying to promote the women's game. Anyway, it gives the male commentators a break between two heavy workloads they've been going through over the past year or so.

Reece Topley will join Hampshire at the end of the season a club he has admired from a distance and who can help him achieve his goal of playing test cricket as well as in division one.

It might have helped if you had looked at the county table, as you will probably be playing in division two again next season.

A serious flare up occurred towards the end of the final Test between Sri Lanka and India in Colombo. The main incident involved India's Ishant Sharma who gave a send-off to opener Upul Tharanga - this was his third offence in the Test series. He was subsequently banned for one Test following an altercation with three Sri Lanka players. Also, Sri Lanka's Dinesh Chandimal has also been banned after barging Ishant and team-mates Lahiru Thirimanne and Dhammika Prasad received fines. They both lost 50% of their match fees for their conduct during the clash with Ishant. India won the three test series 2-1.

In other news. Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has pulled out of a deal to play in the Big Bash and will take an indefinite break from the game.

It appears our next tour of Australia will probably be our last test match at the WACA in Perth as a new 60,000 seater stadium will be ready by 2018.

James Sutherland from cricket Australia statement about putting fans first seems some what shallow as the WACA capacity is 24000, surely its about money.

Has anyone ever straight-out said: it's about the money. We just want to milk even more out of you folk?

... and did (/would) we like it?

There is a (possibly interesting? /personally fascinating) larger picture about the ways in which we fetishise money... kind of a bit like "polite conversation".

Yet another spanking, 33 years of ODI rubbish, should have watched the other XI in San Marino, perhaps not.

Will Steve Smith ever be asked to give the Spirit Of Cricket lecture?

If you are protecting your face or body from the ball, why would you stretch your arm away from your body to block the ball with your hand? Especially when the ball is going away from your body.

Rather easy for Morgan to state, after the event, that he would have withdrawn the appeal.

But a captain must support his players. If an appeal is made then it really is up to the umpires to make the decision.

Even the pundits could not agree whether that was self-defence or not.
