Psych ward, loony bin or anywhere that has nicely padded walls. That way no one can hear their inane ramblings about offending people who are not actually offended. Whose ramblings although possibly well meaning cause more unrest and trouble.

Yes. I am so fed up with "Happy Holidays", "Season's Greetings" and Google's message of "'Tis the Season"

I refer you back to the words of that great philosopher Noddy Holder out of Slade.

So you wouldn't accept a well meant wish if it isn't worded right?

Yeah! But tell it like it is - don't dance around it. I say to my Jewish pals "Happy Hanukkah" - not "Hope you like candles"

In my shopping and errand running of the past week or so, I've been wished "Happy Holidays" and "Merry Christmas." I've returned either sentiment with cheer and a smile on my face. If you get your majtki in a bunch by getting the "wrong" greeting, you've got other problems than holiday greetings.

Yes, yes, yes! I get it - but with respect you are missing my point.

Absolutely no one in the real world has offered me "season's greetings" or "Happy Holidays" (In England). My Hindu neighbours sent me a card saying Merry Christmas - as did my three Jewish pals and my Muslim co-worker.

This thread is about political correctness and it is the fact that institutions such as Google take this line. Note that they do not with other festivals. They have had graphics that mention Eid and Passover etc. So why do they choose to single out the term "Christmas" as being somehow offensive?

It clearly is not - at least not to any persons of other faiths that I know. It is another example of institutions taking offence on behalf of other imaginary offended parties.

Now, actually I was not all that exercised by this issue - it was just an eyebrow raiser. So just take it as an observation on where we are now and I will wish all you bro's a happy whatever you flippin' like.

Happy cold weather. Will that do.

Not really sure what you mean. Christ has always been in Christmas, and Christmas has always been about Christ.

I think most years church leaders try their best to stem the tide of commercialism and get people to think about the spiritual side of Christmas - rather than buying stuff and eating/drinking too much.

To answer your question, I haven't heard much of that this year - and that's probably not a good thing. But I have heard that charities such as "Crisis at Christmas" (which looks after homeless people over the festive period) have done quite well this year.

Let's hope that is the case.
