My absolute favourite is Dagmar Krause - it's just occurred to me that she's a bit like another of my favourites, Peter Hammill, in that she's a great and very accomplished singer, but also a great vocalist - IE, she will use her voice for effects that a singing teacher would balk at.

German singer/musician Claudia Brucken is one female voice I love to hear. She was the lead singer in German 1980's band Propaganda and went solo after that. Her voice is absolute sublime, sexy and very emotional.

Many many years ago I picked up a bootleg compilation cassette of Grace Jones. (Anyone remember those?)
Turned out to be an excellent compilation of her early stuff, before "Slave to the Rythm".

I just happened to stumble across this live version of 'Slave' recently, in which she shows a true command of the stage... and those legs.
