Chantel Jeffries originally from Jacksonville, North Carolina is apparently an underground internet sensation and model on the rise .... She modelled for product lines 'Mint-Swim' and 'Fine Ass Girls', lines by Draya from VH1’s Basketball Wives. She has a tendency to date young men who attract press coverage .... she herself has no wikipage ... yet.

She rose to national prominence when she was the female companion of Mr Justin Bieber, on the night when he was arrested for driving under the influence in the early morning hours in January 2014.

Now being in the car with Justin Bieber may be a crime against common sense and good taste, but its not a criminal offence ..... even if earlier in the evening Bieber tweeted a snap of Chantel behind the wheel of the Lamborghini he was later arrested in, with the caption: '@chanteljeffries taking me for a ride in the lambo.'

However Public records indicate that the 21 year old, has had run-ins with the law. These include:

• An arrest for speeding at 92mph in a 70mph zone, the charge was later reduced which resulted in a fine.
• She was also accused of misdemeanour assault with a deadly weapon on February 2, 2011 but at Onslow County Court the case was dismissed on March 8, 2011, when her alleged victim refused to press charges.
• She also stabbed another woman in the left forearm 'during a physical altercation,' in another incident .... But the victim 'did not want to proceed with the matter' and the charge was dropped after Jeffries agreed to pay for the court costs, according to court papers.

May Myat Noe is a Myanmar (Burmese) model. In May she won the Miss Asia Pacific World 2014 Title held in Seoul in May 2014 .... she got lent a tiara, worth at least $100,000 (£60,000), and was given singing and video deals. Oh and as the organisers put it "We thought she should be more beautiful … so as soon as she arrived we sent her to the hospital to operate on her breasts” at a cost of $10,000.

In August she was stripped of her title after South Korean organisers claimed she was ungrateful and acted dishonestly

The organisers, Miss Asia Pacific World Super Talent Organization issued a statement that said that she had "lied" to them and did not show them respect but the statement did not give more details. However it did say that Ms May had an "ungrateful attitude" and the issue of her trustworthiness were among the main reasons why it was dethroning her. Other reports suggest that her mother (who acted as her manager) had disagreed with the organizers about how her career should be developed .... the mother appears to have wanted to retain control over her daughter's career, but under the terms of the competition, the winner effectively works for the organisers.

Amongst the complaints of the organisers included the fact that she brought her mother with her to Seoul for what was supposed to be a 10-day visit, but that quickly turned into three months, all at the cost of the organisers.

She has also failed to return the sash and the tiara .... the organisers are attempting to get the jewels back, but she is believed to have run off to Burma again .... So lets hope mum knows best eh?

Update:

She is reportedly demanding an apology before she returns the tiara .... don't know about the sash.

Sandra Ann Goodrich (aka 'Sandie Shaw'), was born and brought up in Dagenham, Essex, England. She left school, and she started work at the nearby Ford Dagenham factory .... however she supplemented this with some part-time modelling, and entering local talent contests as a singer.

Her break came when she came second as a singer in one of these contests and the prize was an appearance at a charity concert in London, where the singer Adam Faith was an attendee. He introduced her to his manager who got her a contract with Pye Records in 1964, and also gave her the stage name of "Sandie Shaw". Her second single "(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me", rose quickly to No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart in the autumn of 1964, and also charted in the United States. This was followed by "Girl Don't Come" which reached No. 3 in the UK and became her biggest US hit, reaching No. 42 ... followed by "Long Live Love", her second UK No. 1 in 1965 ... with regular on popular British TV programmes of the time such as 'Top of the Pops', 'Ready Steady Go!'

But by 1967, and that seemed likely to be that with her record sales declining and her manager decided on more of a cabaret appeal but a chance request by the BBC led to her going to the Eurovision Song Contest of 1967 with "Puppet on a String" .... it won with a record vote and gave her another UK number 1 and a world wide hit (except the US). In 1968 she began the Sandie Shaw fashion label, selling her own brand of clothing and shoes, and in the same year she hosted her own TV show, 'The Sandie Shaw Supplement'. In 1972 with falling sales her record contract ended and she retired from professional singing.

Needless to say she soon returned, writing, producing, touring through the 70's right up to 2013 ... highlights of a moderately successful post pop career included Boxing Day 2010, when she appeared on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs and when she was Jools Holland's special guest on his 2011 Tour and appeared on some of his TV shows (her full career is on link on her name)

All this nearly ended when a major scandal in her private life broke just before the Eurovision Song Contest. She revealed that the BBC wanted to fire her on the eve of the competition, because they feared her new risqué image would reflect badly on the UK (and them), and would damage the nation's chances of winning.

This was following an adultery case where the 20 year old Shaw had been described by a judge as "a spoilt child" after she had been identified as the 'other woman' involved in the break-up of the marriage of a leading model, Veronica Murdoch, a successful model also known as Veronica Sands, and her husband. Douglas Murdoch was a television executive who had worked on the pop music programme Ready Steady Go! which Shaw had regularly appeared on .... For younger readers, divorce was not automatic in those days. and 'named infidelity' was one of the allowable reasons ... so Shaw had been publicly named as a 'home wrecker' and by implication 'immoral'.

It came out in court in 1967 that while the Murdoch's were having a trial separation in 1964 Mrs Murdoch called to see her husband twice at his London flat, only to find Shaw there, on one occasion wearing only a nightdress. A Barrister stated that "This woman, or girl, was 17 or 18 at the time, and proceeded to harass Mrs Murdoch. She caused an affray, and a row in the neighbourhood, broke a door down, caused consternation and considerable embarrassment ... and used foul language in the early hours of the morning or late at night."

Shaw denied the adultery, but was found by the judge to be a key reason for the breakdown of the Murdochs' marriage.

"I was involved in somebody else's divorce and they [the BBC] didn't think it was the right image, and so it was incredibly unpleasant. I was only young to have all of that going on backstage, it was very hard, but I had to hold all that in when I was singing. Afterwards, they [BBC] were all over me like a rash."

Gail Russell (b. Elizabeth L. Russell) was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA. While a teen the family moved to Los Angeles, where her failed actress mother brought her to the attention of Paramount Pictures in 1942, but having to practically drag her to the audition. She had wanted to be a painter, but although painfully shy and with no acting experience, Paramount liked her and employed an acting coach to work with her. Her family life had been chaotic, with the family living practically on the breadline having sold their furniture and Ms Russell claiming she had slept on newspapers ... so the $50 a week contract was a lifeline.

She made some progress, and by age 19 was ready for her debut movie 'Henry Aldrich Gets Glamour', which was followed by several more films in the 1940's, of which perhaps the 'Wake of the Red Witch' in 1948 with John Wayne is the most well known. But by 1950 her Paramount career was over when they didn't renew her contract.

She had married actor Guy Madison in 1949, but by 1954 she had divorced Madison, and she returned to movies in 1956 in a co-starring role with Randolph Scott in the western 'Seven Men from Now', which was produced by her friend John Wayne, and she also had a role in 'The Tattered Dress' in 1957. However her career was now blighted, and with only two more smaller movie roles, plus two TV episodes, her career had ended with just 28 credits.

The blight of most her career was that old standby of Alcohol. She had started drinking on the set of 'The Uninvited' in 1944, mainly to help her combat her chronic stage fright and lack of self-confidence. By 1950 this had impacted her life to such an extent that her alcoholism was a primary reason why Paramount didn't renew her contract.

She seemed to have conquered her demons after her divorce, but on the 5th of July1957, she was photographed by a Los Angeles Times photographer after she drove her convertible into the front of 'Jan's coffee shop' at 8424 Beverly Blvd, nearly killing the janitor, when she pinned him under the new convertible. After failing a sobriety test, Russell was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. This was the culmination of several shocking, and often embarrassing public run-ins with the law while she was drunk. In August 1957, she ended up in General Hospital's prison ward when two officers found her passed out after she failed to appear for a hearing in this drunk driving case.

This event didn't impact her drinking, but she did join AA as a part of her battle with the bottle, and on 27th of August 26 1961 (She had been dead for at least a day), she was found dead in her apartment in Brentwood, Los Angeles, California. The medical examiner found that she had died from liver damage which he attributed to long-term alcohol abuse. It was also noted that she was suffering from malnutrition at the time of her death.

There were rumours circulated during her lifetime that she may have had affairs with several lead men or even long after her death that she was a closet lesbian. This latter claim can be dismissed as another of those lets just 'out' a dead person .... there's just nothing to back it up. But when John Wayne's wife Esperanza, sued for divorce, she testified in court that she nearly shot him, when he broke into their home the next morning after he had allegedly spent the night with Russell. She also said he gave her a car, although he claimed it was only the down payment. Both Wayne and Russell denied the affair but her first arrest for drunk driving was only a few weeks later, on 24th of November 1953.

"When I was discovered for the movies I was sleeping on the living room floor on newspapers. I went for my first interview with paint all over my face--I'd been helping paint a room at the technical school. Paramount offered me a minimum salary--$50 a week-- and Mom said, 'Take it, we need the money.' "

"They cast me in a Henry Aldrich picture, wearing a bathing suit and a transparent raincoat. It had been raining and there was a large puddle across from the studio commissary where the scene was to be shot. Of course they had to do it just as the sets broke for lunch and such stars as Alan Ladd, Bing Crosby and others were passing by. There I was trying to speak my lines while holding an umbrella which kept slipping from my nervous fingers. To this day I refuse all bathing suit scenes in public or private."

Her sister in law "She was really, really and truly trying to stop drinking. It was tragic because she was so talented and suffering so much. If she had enjoyed drinking it would have been something else--but she didn't. No matter what they say about Hollywood, the people there were always wonderful to her through the long years she had her problems. She always got through when she made a call and anybody who ever worked with her always believed in her."

• Jan's coffee bar is still in business.
• She was buried in Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in North Hollywood, California. Some of her old co-stars attended: Alan Ladd, Jimmy "Henry Aldrich" Lydon, Diana Lynn and Mona Freeman, but no sign of John Wayne or her ex husband Guy Madison.
• A talented artist, she starting sketching at the age of 5 and later grew into a respectable oil painter.
• Although only weighing about 100 pounds, she was a talented archer and used a 48lb draw bow. She could hit a two foot target at one hundred yards.

Billie Davis (b. Carol Hedges) is from Woking, Surrey, England. She left school and became an engineering secretary, but then took one of the traditional routes to stardom by entering and then winning a talent contest, before she started her professional recording career. Initially she cut some early demo records with the 'Tornados'. But her first commercial success was after she had been taken over by promoter Robert Stigwood's team, with "Will I What", which was released in August 1962 and reached number 18 in the UK Singles Chart in September. February 1963 saw her biggest success, with a cover version of 'The Exciters' "Tell Him", which was then followed by "He's The One", which crept into the Top 40 in May 1963.

She never achieved the fame of such contemporaries as Cilla Black or Sandie Shaw, and in the late 1960's Davis returned to Decca records. She had another success with "I Want You to Be My Baby", which reached number 33 in October 1968 ... She left Decca in April 1971, but continued to record into the 1980's, and was apparently popular with audiences in the Spanish-speaking world. A retrospective collection of her recordings for Decca was released in 2005, and in 2006 she was re-united with her early collaborator 'Jet Harris' for a series for concerts .... he died in 2011.

While promoting her follow up single 'He's The One' in 1963. Billie was involved in a serious car accident along with 'Jet Harris' of 'The Shadows'. 'Jet' was a married man, and Billie was aged just 17 years old and they were having an affair, and so they soon became a couple much hounded by the tabloids ... as we have seen with 'Sandie Shaw', that sort of press exposure was very damaging in the 1960's. Their chauffeured car hit a Midland red bus and Billie pulled Jet from the wreckage, but both had sustained various injuries, including a serious broken jaw for Davis and as a result she was unable to do any performing or promotion for several months.

In an interview included in the liner notes of the 2007 CD 'Whatcha Gonna Do?' she acknowledged the impact the scandal had on her career, but also placed some blame for the "lost momentum" on her career, on being unable to record during a fast moving period for four months, due to having her jaw wired shut after the accident.

Trivia:

• In her talent contest she was backed by Cliff Bennett's band, the 'Rebel Rousers'.
• "Tell Him" was covered in the sixties by a number of artists, including Helen Shapiro and Alma Cogan, and later in the late 1990s by Vonda Shepard, for the American Fox television program, 'Ally McBeal'.
• The heavy promotion for 'Tell Him' had Billie performing and touring with mega acts The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.
• On "Angel of the Morning", she was backed by, amongst others, 'Kiki Dee'.
• Sales of "I Want You to Be My Baby", were affected by an industrial dispute at the manufacturing plant ... ah the 1960's!

Regulars to this thread will be aware that occasionally we delve in to the semi-hidden world of the super rich (old money), where quiet power is exerted via money and connections, rather than 'celebrity' or 'fame'. These side trips have included Beata Boman, and Leona Helmsley but there are others here as well.

So without further ado we are looking at Susan Cummings was born in Monte Carlo, Monaco to American billionaire arms dealer Samuel Cummings, who until his death in 1998 was the owner of 'Interarms' the largest private arms company in the world, with a then turnover of $100m pa. Along with her twin sister Diana, she was brought up in Monte Carlo, and educated in private schools in France, with summers spent in Switzerland. However the two girls grew up very differently, with Susan apparently something of a lonely 'Tomboy', who wore no makeup, and who had no boyfriends, preferring the company of animals. They both learnt to ride and shoot while very young.

In the late 1970's Mr Cummings took the sisters to the US, where they went to the all girl 'Mount Vernon College'. When they graduated in 1984, he bought them a lavish 340-acre estate in Warrenton, Fauquier County, Virginia, USA which he named 'Ashland Farms', and I guess that would have been pretty much it for her .... a big estate, a large inheritance and running (occasionally), with the country set in the USA. But in June 1995, she signed up to take some Polo classes at the 'Willow Run Polo School', with extra tuition from Argentinian instructor Jean Marie Turon.

He introduced to her to Roberto Villegas, a professional polo player, he had recently been on the winning team for the 'Presidents Cup', and was voted most 'Valuable Player' ... he became a celebrity in these circles, and started playing for the local 'Heart and Hound' team, and they kept bumping in to each other, and their love of horses apparently drew them together (or maybe drew her to him ~ he was from a poor background, like many of the South American polo pros, and so the attraction to him of a very rich and single woman, must have been a factor, and he had recently broken up with a girlfriend) ... in any event they became 'an item'.

It looked like it was going to be a happy ending ....

... but, he seemingly took to the easy life rather quickly, and stopped travelling to the tough competitions, and started 'helping out' on the sisters farm estate. She didn't move him into the big house with her, but rather into a labourers cottage, and didn't pay him for all his work. Still he moved his 6 horses worth $20k each, on to the estate, which although was rent free, meant he was no longer earning the $4,000k pm, he had previously got as a retainer for playing polo. She then set up her own team for him to play on, but this reduced him to $400 pm pocket money, plus his rent paid, for a room on friend of Ms Cummings, ranch. She then later went to Monaco to visit her parents, but upon her return found their relationship cooled.

Mr Villegas had dated other women while she was away and seemed to be less keen .... at this point a series of events occurred that led to tragedy.

Ms Cummings suddenly confided with a friend Janet Rowe, that she was fearful of Mr Villegas. Her friend then later called the local police to enquire about obtaining an order of protection .... but Ms Cummings didn't request one, and only later did Cummings file a statement with the Fauquier deputies, just two weeks before the fateful events. In it she described Villegas as "overpowering, short-fused and 'the crazy type.'" She wrote that she had tried to break up with him but that he "refuses to let go. In the last month he has [begun] to show signs of aggression. His words are 'I will put a bullet in your head and hang you upside down to let the blood pour on your bed.'"

... however she took no action on the police advice about stopping him, and indeed carried on attending events with him, and indeed the couple still attended a charity event on Saturday the 6th September as 'an item' in Pittsburgh. He was due to play the next day in a tournament called 'The Taste Of Argentina', although Ms Cummings had objected, saying the horses were too tired.

On Sunday the 7th September 1997, he left his rooms at the friends ranch at 8:00 am, and by 9:00am a call had been placed to the sheriffs office stating that the caller wanted to report ".. a shot man, and he's dead .... tried to kill me.".

The physical evidence at the crime scene didn't back Ms Cummings version of events, that she had shot Villegas as he came at her with the knife, using a gun she kept loaded in her kitchen. However the forensics showed he had still been seated at the table when he was shot. Also Ms Cummings claimed that he had slashed her arm with a knife while holding her throat, but again, the knife found under his chair had only a small amount of blood, and was not covered with any of his blood from his shot wounds, which it should of been. The police believed that her wounds were self inflicted after the events, when they also believed that she had also tried to doctor the crime scene e.g. the holster for the gun that she claimed to always to keep in in the kitchen, was found in her bedroom.

Anyways, to cut a long story shorter ... to the shock of very many, on the 13th of May 1998, she was found not guilty of murder by the jury, but they convicted her of voluntary manslaughter, recommending just a 60-day sentence that Cummings readily accepted. "I feel very happy," she said after the trial .... and she confirmed that they would not be appealing ..... I'll bet.

It got even stranger ... Before she even showed up on Saturday the 16th of May 1998, to begin her 60 days of imprisonment, all the other female prisoners were cleared out of the women's cellblock, apparently so she could serve her time in private, in a dorm-style room with its own telephone. The Sheriff, Joseph Higgs transferred the five existing prisoners to jails in neighbouring communities ~ costing the Fauquier taxpayers $40 per prisoner per day for the period of Ms Cummings stay. He justified it on the grounds of Ms Cummings safety.

But even this wasn't enough it seems, as prisoners are normally allowed no more than three visitors at a time, and for no more than a total of 30 minutes, and then only on weekend days. Ms Cummings, though, was permitted to entertain multiple visitors for hours each day, and also allowed to snack on sandwiches and cookies brought in by her mother and twin sister.

Major Roger Fraser, a spokesman for the sheriff said the decision to transfer the five female inmates was made after some of them caused "some unrest" upon learning of Cummings's sentence .... "When you have a situation where a woman is serving 60 days after killing someone next to people serving two-year sentences for bad-check writing or forgery, it's understandable that she might not be their favorite person." Kimberley Anderson, one of the transferred prisoners pointed out that "She's the one serving time for killing someone, not any of us," but that it was the five others who suffered.

I'll leave the last word on the strange goings on to the county jail board chairman, who said he was somewhat mystified by the Cummings case.

"It's a strange sentence in the first place," he said. "When somebody gets 60 days for shooting someone and five years for writing bad checks, it makes you wonder about the influence that wealth has on our judicial system." .... in other words when money talks justice walks.

In March 1986 she pleaded innocent to charges that she was involved in a violent Hollywood-based cocaine ring, and her lawyers asked for psychiatric tests to determine whether she was competent to stand trial ... she had been charged with involvement in a cocaine-dealing ring headed by her live-in manager, Reed Wallace. But in April 1987, she then turned state informer on Mr Wallace and his gang, including the enforcer strong-arm man, one Philip (Pee Wee) Sena, and she was allowed to plead guilty to lesser charges. She was placed on probation for three years and ordered to perform 600 hours of community service.

In August 1993 was cited, but not actually arrested during a traffic stop and later arraigned on a misdemeanour charge that she had a about an ounce of marijuana in her purse when police stopped the car in which she was traveling in Beverly Hills.

In April 1994 when police raided the home of acting agent Don Gibble in pursuit of robbery suspects, Oscar Andres Lopez and Anthony Zapata, who were both living there, they also found one Victoria Sellers also at the home, and in possession of stolen jewellery. Don Gibble was charged with receiving stolen property and Ms Sellers pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour charge of receiving stolen property and would have spent about two weeks in jail. However she was later re-arrested and spent 13 days in in the Sybil Brand Institute, on $100,000 bail, this after she failed to appear at the police station for booking, on the receiving stolen property charge. She was freed on her own recognizance as the judge reckoned she had served her time.

Trivia:

• Sellers is supposedly currently a hostess and bartender at Le Petit Bistro in West-Hollywood, California.
• She apparently tried the reality show format with "The Eklands" for Swedish television with her mom Britt, brother Nick and brother T.J. ... no idea how that went

Anna Marie "Patty" Duke was born in Elmhurst, Queens, New York, USA into a dysfunctional family. Her father was an alcoholic and her mother suffered from clinical depression and was prone to violence towards the children so it was no surprise when her mother threw her father out when Ms Duke was aged 6. However when she was aged 8 she was handed over to the care of John and Ethel Ross, who were her brothers managers, and they immediately promoted her as well.

To this end they padded her CV, consistently knocked two years off her age and told her she was called Patty .... whatever the ethics of all this it worked because she appeared in print ads and in television commercials (including one for the Remco Movieland Drive-In Theatre toy). At the age of 12, in 1959, Duke appeared on The '$64,000 Question' and won $32,000, where her category of expertise was spelling. A couple of small TV roles led to her big break in the Broadway play 'The Miracle Worker', which she played between 1959 and July 1961. This was the start of a successful teen career when she reprised her role in the 1962 film version and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 1963, Duke was given her own series, titled 'The Patty Duke Show'.

Upon turning 18, Duke became legally free of the Rosses, only to find that they had squandered most of her earnings, in violation of the Coogan Act and with the teen work offers drying up after her marriage to director Harry Falk, in 1967 she took the adult role of 'Neely O'Hara' in film 'Valley of the Dolls'. In 1969 she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) for her role in the movie 'Me, Natalie', and in 1970 she won her first 'Emmy' for her role in a made-for-TV movie, 'My Sweet Charlie'.

In 1987 She wrote an autobiography, 'Call Me Anna' which was later adapted for TV in 1990. In 1982 she diagnosed as being manic-depressive (bi-polar), and in 1992 she co-authored a book about the disorder, "A Brilliant Madness: Living with Manic-Depressive Illness".

She has since enjoyed a long career that has included 139 credits in film,TV and stage. She also embarked on a singing career which included two US Top 40 hits in 1965, "Don't Just Stand There" (#8) and "Say Something Funny" (#22).

She was married 3 times. before her fourth and current marriage.

In 1962, it was revealed that the game show $64,000 Question was rigged and she was called to testify before a panel of the United States Senate.

The Rosses also began providing Duke with alcohol and prescription drugs when she was 13, which contributed to substance abuse problems that she experienced throughout her young adult life.

As an adult, Duke accused both John and Ethel Ross of sexual abuse but she took no further action.

Ironically taking the role of 'Neely O'Hara' in 'Valley of the Dolls' nearly killed her career, because both audiences and critics alike at the time had difficulty accepting the 'all-American-teenager' Duke, as an alcoholic, drug-addicted singing star.

In 1970, aged of 23 she had an affair with then 'Here's Lucy' star the 17-year old Desi Arnaz, Jr. The couple's relationship became tabloid fodder, due to the vocal and very public opposition of Arnaz's mother, 'Lucille Ball' star of 'I Love Lucy'. Arnaz broke off their relationship and she began dating actor John Astin, whilst at the same time also enjoying an intimate relationship with rock promoter Michael Tell. Things got a lot more complicated when she learned she was pregnant and didn't know whether Arnaz or Astin was the father of her unborn child so to solve the problem she married Michael Tell. This marriage lasted just 13 days before ending in an annulment on July 9, 1970. Duke later claimed the marriage/relationship was never consummated.

In her 1987 autobiography she claimed that John Astin was her sons Sean's biological father, but later she stated that she had always believed that Desi Arnaz, Jr. was Sean's actual biological father. However, no doubt confused by his mothers claims and counter claims about his parentage in 1994 Mr Astin underwent biological/DNA testing to determine his paternity, and the results showed that Ms Duke may have had a memory lapse over the nature of her relationship and marriage to Mr Tell because the tests showed that Mr Astin's father is actually Michael Tell.

• At 16, Duke was the youngest person at that time to receive an Academy Award in a competitive category.

• Received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in August, 2004.
