I'm not much into crime drama, but I'm really smitten by Ripper Street.

Just started watching a BBC show called Luther, starring Idris Elba. He's fantastic as always and it's almost like a modern day Sherlock Holmes in a way. It's pretty interesting so far so looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

Ripper Street should be back next year for a second series, I really enjoyed that and you probably won't see Luther again but there is talk of a film version. I won't spoil your enjoyment but they can't bring him back for the reasons you will find when you've seen the final series. Against all the rubbish written in the papers(yes Jan Moir, Daily Mail I mean you, you stupid bint) I enjoyed and still enjoying 'That Puppet Game Show' and her mistake was to, inevitably, compare it to The Muppet Show of the 80s. It is funny, sad and just better than ITV's entire output with their own muppets Ant & Dec. Yes it is silly, yes it is mad, but that's the point, it is good FAMILY entertainment but with adult overtones but that goes right over kids' heads anyway. My favourite character is The Amazing Ian-a clever aardvark. Give it a look, I am sure you'll laugh at least once or twice
I also liked Peaky Blinders(BBC2) which is based on characters that existed in Victorian Birmingham and were pretty vicious mobs of ex-army men who were being hunted by a ruthless Irish police detective(Sam Neill) I'll stick with it to see how it unfolds.

Enjoyed watching the repeats of The Long Firm on the Drama channel. The four-part BBC drama captures the seedy side of the criminal underworld and tells the story of crime boss Harry Starks, played by Mark Strong, as seen through the eyes of four characters that come into his orbit.

I recently watched two episodes of "Who Do You Think You Are, UK".
I watched the Kim Cattral and Patrick Stewart episodes from season 6 and 9 respectively. I didn't know Kim's mom was from Liverpool or that she now resides in Vancouver. I did find out that Kim's grandfather was a total prick. He abandoned Kim's mother, two aunts and her grandmother when the girls were very small and left them in the worst slum in Liverpool to fend for themselves. The episode is interesting in that she started out only wanting to know more about her family and it was interesting to see her develop a very real loathing for her maternal grandfather as events unfolded. The Patrick Stewart episode was also very interesting as he could never understand why his father always seemed to be angry over nothing. He finds out that it had to do with his father witnessing the worst atrocities in WWII and suffering from what we now call post traumatic stress syndrome. In his day you weren't allowed to show emotion or guilt as it was considered unmanly and it could get you permanent residence in a mental institute. Another very well done episode.

Yes I remember seeing both those episodes. Kim's was very interesting and Patrick's was fascinating. I remember the most emotional ones for me(being a Jew) was Stephen Fry and the US's Lisa Kidrow.

Peaky Blinders
Just watched the first of this 6 part series. Filmed and acted really well.
Looks like it could build to a good finale. Being from the Birmingham area some of the accents were a bit dodgy but would recommend looking out for it.

I wonder if it is the same set used for Ripper Street?
Atlantis, being plugged on the BBC this autumn looks pretty good, in the same vein as MERLIN was for the last 4 seasons. They have obviously spent money on the sets and special effects, so I hope it lives up to the hype.
