In the antiques world vintage means 100 years ago, so anything before 1919 is regarded as such. I think we should have a protocol of anything 30 years ago or before so that the goal post is moved forward each year but remaining a fixed time lapse.

As has been said before, what is "vintage" is a matter of personal preference. Do I enjoy naked chicks of any era? You bet I do! But when I think "vintage" I think 1900 to around 1960 - the black & white era of French postcards, sharp focus 4x5 sets and Bettie Page!

When does the well run dry? (The changeover from 'vintage' to 'modern')
It could easily be separated into pre-internet era (vintage) and post-internet era (modern) which puts the line somewhere around the mid to late-90s, possibly the year 2000 to make it a nice round figure. My personal line-in-the-sand, like a few others, is around 1995, when I was almost 35. I think the entire decade of the 1990s was a kind of slow turning point for a lot of things. And that’s not just with porn or adult stuff, that’s television, movies, music – popular culture in other words – not to mention society in general, due in no small part to the arrival of the aforementioned internet.
However, I don’t think the coming of the internet probably had anything to do with women starting to shave their pussies, I think that trend was (regrettably) going to take hold regardless! |

"Vintage" is always going to be relative. Even some definitions for cars it's >20 or 25 years. Even now, advances are being made with VR and the like (which is very fun BTW) so even the new "pancake" stuff today is likely to be 'vintage' before too long.
Probably should come up with a different term like 1st-generation or 1st-wave porn (though what we're talking about is likely 2nd or 3rd generation at least) that would be less relative. What would be the generations? 0th: ? 1st: Vocal 2nd: Drawings 3rd: Literature 4th: Paper multimedia 5th: Movies multimedia 6th: Distributed production (rise of the amateurs) Something like that? |
